About 5 years ago I thought it was completely impossible to get good Mexican grub in Bangkok. At the time I felt stuck with mediocre food that didn’t live up to anything I’ve had in the past. As most of you know America has been conquered by Mexicans for some time so a majority of my life I’ve been living on a gigantic amount of Mexican food. This makes me without a doubt, a person whom you should place all of your trust and respect when it comes to this topic and your bank account information. Wink wink.
This past weekend I was granted the privilege of eating at my now favorite Mexican restaurant in Bangkok and way up on the charts in my worldwide rankings also. It’s called Senor Pico and it’s located inside the Rembrandt hotel (the hotel review is coming soon.) So first let’s chat about a little history. I was first introduced to Señor Pico a few years ago when they were a completely different restaurant. They have since undergone a huge renovation to improve the atmosphere and massively upgraded their menu.
They offer a large assortment of Mexican food, some being completely authentic and some being more of a Tex-Mex variety. To be honest Tex-Mex is one of my favorite types of food and the type of Mexican food that I enjoy the most. Señor Pico absolutely kills it when it comes to Tex-Mex. When you go (and I’m sure you’re going to go) do yourself a favor and get some of the staples of Tex-Mex such as the tacos, burritos or some melted cheesy goodness with the quesadillas.
When we were examining the menu, The Curious Cat Lady noticed the chicken wings and I then saw that they had jalapeno flavor which intrigued me immensely to say the least. Ordering the wings was quite possibly the best decision of my entire life. They brought me to a magical land where happiness was had by all. Little munchkins skipping around with spicy jalapeno wings. Diving into a river of margaritas. Anyways, there was so much good food coming that I wanted to pace myself but the chicken was so damn good that I had to finish it first.
Pierre loves himself a good margarita, that’s a fact. So when we were informed that they had 70 different types of tequila on deck I could not resist the urge to splurge. I have to say I was not let down in the slightest. The margaritas were off the chain! My grandmother would use the phrase “tickled” here if you were curious. I also tried a drink which I forget the name which was similar to a mojito however instead of liquor there was Corona beer. Living on the edge!
For our whole dinner there was live music. These Latin songs put us in the mood and brought out our inner Mexican. The whole vibe of the restaurant with the music and the ambiance made me feel that I was somewhere other than in the middle of Southeast Asia.
Senor Pico focuses on their Tex-Mex menu most of the week however at their brunch they offer more authentic Mexican dishes. As I said I am a huge fan of Tex-Mex so I greatly recommend going for a normal dinner and ordering these options.
In conclusion, Senor Pico offers great food and value for the baht spent. If you want the best Mexican food in Bangkok I highly recommend you try Senor Pico and don’t forget to order a margarita!
