Most of you know I love to travel and eat! Throughout the years I’ve tried many different diets including vegetarian, vegan and most recently, I’ve experimented with gluten-free foods. In case you’re unfamiliar, gluten is a family of proteins found in grass-related grains. Some people are completely allergic to gluten, while others may have problems and discomfort digesting it. Those that are sensitive found that removing gluten from their diet improved their quality of life. Gluten-free foods may come with a stigma about flavor, like many other dietary labeled foods, but in reality, many taste great and sometimes even better than the original versions!
I’ve went ahead and ranked some of my favorites. Without further ado, I give to you, my 6 Amazing Gluten-Free Foods You Must Try.
6. Dark Chocolate Chip Gluten-Free and Wheat-Free Waffles
Waffles are definitely one of my favorite breakfast choices! There is no limit to what you can top them with and paired with real maple syrup, make these fantastic. Simply warm them up in the toaster and you’re good to go for sweet and crispy goodness.
5. Rice Pasta and Cheddar
They don’t call it macaroni & cheese, but obviously, it’s macaroni & cheese and who doesn’t enjoy that! It honestly wasn’t much different then normal macaroni & cheese with gluten so don’t expect a life-changing experience. A great snack and a great way to enjoy macaroni and cheese gluten-free.
4. Salt and Vinegar Potato Chips
As a boy, I loved to experiment with very intense flavors, to this day nothing has changed. Ever since I can remember my favorite potato chip flavor would have to be, salt and vinegar. I’m a huge advocate for sour and salty foods! This mostly manifests itself in a love of Southeast Asian noodles with lots of lime, vinegar and fish sauce, but also a bag of salt and vinegar chips help me to get my fix!
3. Figgies & Jammies Gluten-Free Cookies
I was first introduced to figs by the cookie when I was young. I loved them in a cookie but then started enjoying them fresh and dried as I began traveling. Figgies & Jammies jumped up my list because they taste fantastic, are moist and put me in my happy place. You can’t lose with these lovely cookies.
2. Homemade Guacamole
Out of all the options, guacamole is definitely the healthiest. You can buy it pre-made but I prefer to make it myself, to add the Pierre twist on things. I add all of the typical ingredients including tomato, avocado, red onion, jalapeno and lime juice but I also add cayenne pepper and Tapatío hot sauce. This gives my guacamole that extra punch which can’t be beat. Fire up the guac and I’ll be over soon.
Who doesn’t enjoy food that is easy to prepare and tastes incredible? Gluten-Free Delights Stuffed Sandwiches come in a variety of flavors including Ham and Cheese, Uncured Pepperoni Pizza, Southwest Veggie, Spinach Artichoke and more! I recommend heating them up in your oven to get them crispy on the outside and soft and melted on the inside! These lovely little pockets of heaven really beat my expectations, and that’s why they’ve became my number one gluten-free snack!
If you didn’t tell me they were gluten-free, I wouldn’t have had any idea. Gluten-Free Delights are crafted without the use of artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. My favorite flavor was the Uncured Pepperoni Pizza but you’ll have to decide for yourself. I enjoyed mine with a little hot sauce (ok, a lot of hot sauce.) These are easily found throughout the Midwest and beyond, including at fine establishments such as Jewel-Osco, Meijer, Fresh Thyme, Woodman’s, Better Health and Piggly Wiggly. Get yours today!
