Globally Inspired Dining In The US

16 Dec 2018

In today’s world, you never quite know where you’re going to find amazing food. Increasingly, it’s not about location (though that still plays a role). It’s about the quality of the establishment that grows up.

Most fine dining restaurants don’t start out that way. They begin as just a funky idea, and then develop into true masterpieces. They grow more like flowers instead of emerging from the top down.

There are examples of this phenomenon all over the US. Establishments that started off as little more than café projects develop into something remarkable. What’s interesting is how it is often a combination of diners and restaurateurs themselves that make the magic happen. One needs the other.

If you are travelling around the US at the moment, here is some of the globally-inspired cuisine that you might want to sample.

Meaty Italian Goodness

The Italian immigrants of the 19th century had a big influence on the US food scene. Without realizing it, many locals are primarily chowing down on dishes that can trace their origins all the way back to the homeland.

Authentic Italian dishes – those that resemble the food that Italians traditionally ate – are challenging to find, though. They’ve been worked on in so many ways that the final product offers a different experience from the what you normally get.

The good news is that there are a host of downtown restaurants across the states now offering a taste of Italy, particularly the Bologna region. This area is famous for its ground beef dishes, rich, thick sauces and buttered desserts.

Indian Flavors

When we say Indian flavors, we mean those from India. In terms of food heritage, this part of the world is among the best. Locals have been perfecting their curries for thousands of years and now certain restaurants are picking up on the tradition.

Granted, in the past if you wanted a good curry – something that embodied their traditional flavors of the subcontinent – you had to go at least as far as the UK. But with more chefs now understanding this cuisine, it is occurring in the US as well. What’s more, these locals are really innovating, finding ways to create authentic flavors without necessarily pandering to local palates. Chutneys, naans, keema and tandoori are all available.

Vietnamese Noodle Soup

Globally Inspired Dining In The US Information

If you’re a fan of ramen, you’ll love the flavors that come out of Vietnam. You don’t actually have to travel to the country anymore to sample its delicacies – immigrants have brought it with them (particularly to the west coast).

Noodle soup sounds basic (and in many cases it looks basic). But it is a good example of a dish born of necessity. Many times, the Vietnamese didn’t have a lot of ingredients to work with. Only the basics. So they refined their noodle dishes to contain the maximum flavor possible. The result is something truly remarkable.

If you don’t fancy soup, outlets are also recreating the banh mi sandwich. This is a crisp baguette filled with savory ingredients – often at the discretion of the restaurant themselves.

Chassis For Men Review: How to Stay Fresh While Traveling

11 Dec 2018

*Disclosure: this post is sponsored by Chassis.

You’ve just arrived at your destination and you’re filled with excitement while you step off the plane and take in your new surroundings. After spending a day or more traveling, you’re relieved to arrive. After the initial euphoria wears off, you realize something major, you stink horribly.

Serious travelers know what I’m talking about. It’s the slimy feeling of greasy hair, rancid breath and a deep musky stench coming from all your crevices after a long day of travel. Pit stains leave yellow rings on your shirt, and at this point, you probably want to burn your underwear. God forbid you have to lift your arms to hug a loved one.

This type of story has happened to me countless times over the years of serious traveling and living abroad. Over time, I’ve picked up a few tricks that have helped make huge improvements in my freshness while I travel. Certainly, planning my showers as close to departure as possible, popping into airport restrooms to freshen up, and brushing my teeth along the way have helped immensely but sometimes, no matter how hard I try, I still wasn’t 100% fresh when I landed.

Recently, I was introduced to Chassis Premium Products which seemed like a great way to tackle my freshness problems. I tried out Chassis’s Restoration Cream, 5-in-1 Shower Primer, and Premium Body Powder, which all serve a slightly different purpose, but with the main goal of keeping you smelling and feeling fresh. After reading reviews on Amazon, it seemed that it’s best to use all three products to avoid pitfalls of using just one.

The process started with using the specially formulated Chassis Shower Primer to neutralize odor, keeping you as fresh as possible from the start. I’ve had problems in the past with body washes that didn’t truly get rid of the initial body odor, so was happy to find one that did. Then you can apply the Chassis Premium Body Powder to areas that are prone to creating moisture, to keep you dryer longer. The powder features a Hydro-Shield technology so sweat and moisture bounce right off you. Finally, apply the Restoration Cream to keep your skin hydrated. Chassis products are talc free and infused with a power extract blend to keep you fresh without interfering with your other fragrances.

The key with everything in life is moderation. I used a little bit of these here and there to assist with my freshness. Obviously, it can be expected that if you go too crazy with soap or drying powder you will irritate your skin so make sure you balance your regimen.

Delta Hotels by Marriott Québec Review

On my first trip to Québec I also made my first trip to a Delta Hotel by Marriott. Knowing it was by Marriott gave me a signal of what I could expect. The Delta Hotel Québec by Marriott is located on Parliament Hill in Québec City, Canada. This property is conveniently located with easy access to a handful of important parts of the city.

When we arrived, there was an easy check in process with a very friendly receptionist. For the stay at the Delta Québec Hotel by Marriott I was able to book a Club Level Room on the same floor as the Club Lounge. The room had a look and feel that I was used to and consistent with other Marriott branded properties. It had a business feel but also made a great place to relax.

My Club Room featured a sofa along the window, large king-sized bed, comfortable work desk equipped with convenient outlets, small coffee machine, teakettle and a decently sized closet. The room did not have a safety box and there was a bit more to be desired from the coffee machine. There was a beautiful city view and I’d also like to thank the staff for the gift!

The bathroom was equipped with an delightfully modern style, single sink, nice toiletries and a glass shower stall. It was a comfortable bathroom indeed.

The Club Lounge on the 12th floor of the Delta Québec Hotel by Marriott had beautiful views of the surrounding city. The lounge offered a fairly early breakfast from 6:30am to 9:30am, all day soft drinks and finally evening hors d’oeuvres with honor bar (paid drinks.) I learned that Québec has a law about not being able to offer alcohol without charging additionally for it. Overall, the style and layout were fairly comfortable with a friendly staff.

My recommendation for breakfast would be to enjoy it in the Club Lounge. They do offer a breakfast on the lobby level but I found the food in the Club Lounge to be better. It’s continental but does have scrambled eggs. The Starbucks coffee was also a huge plus!

On the second floor of the Delta Québec Hotel by Marriott you’ll find the pool, fitness center and locker rooms with saunas. The heated pool was special because it was open all year around. It was a treat to swim outdoor with snow falling. The fitness center had a decent amount of equipment and wasn’t very crowded during my visit. The changing rooms featured a dry sauna. All in all the fitness facilities were bit older but got the job done.

During my stay in Canada I fell in love with Québec! Most Americans that I’ve come across don’t spend much time in Canada which is crazy because it’s so near and has so much to offer! Whilst in Québec City, I found the Delta Hotel by Marriott to be a lovely overall property. This property was consistent with the high-quality offering that I’ve found in other Marriott properties worldwide. Great service and a solid offering make this a great place to stay at while visiting Québec City, Canada!

How Needless Buying is Taking Away Your Fulfillment

02 Dec 2018

The United States has the largest consumer culture in the world. According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, since 1950 consumer spending has grown exponentially, illustrating that materialism is quickly increasing. People are consumed with consumption! Pun intended. Not all buying is bad when it’s the things you actually need, but when it’s beyond what you need, then this behavior has a negative impact on your life.

People are becoming more and more lost in materialism and “Keeping up With The Joneses.” Lately, modern social media such as Instagram and Facebook have had a large influence on this negative trend. Modern social media has become a tool for driving more sales of things we don’t need.

Side note: At times, I do feel my own social media channels promote materialism and that is why I have decided to  focus my new content in a more positive direction that doesn’t support needless consumption.

Social media makes it easier to compare our lives with influencers and celebrities which typically increases insecurity with our own accomplishments and gives us a distorted view of reality. It’s important to remember that generally, people with larger followings receive money for promoting products and services.

The golden days of when social networks were simply a tool for bringing people together are over. Now it’s all about generating ad revenue through promoting unneeded consumption.

According to Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory test results (a common tool that is used to measure people’s mental health) since the 1940s, rates of depression and anxiety in Americans have been on the rise. Other studies have shown this to be true around the globe as well.

Modern technology traps us in a cycle of distraction and promotes unneeded consumption. By constantly distracting ourselves from our problems, we can never solve them. We are constantly bombarded with advertisements and always feel we have to buy more or make more money to achieve success and happiness.

Increased levels of consumption have devastating effects on the environment such as increased air pollution and increased waste.

The conclusion is that embracing materialism by consuming above and beyond what we actually need has a negative impact on our lives and the world. This negative behavior only distracts us from solving life’s real problems.

Luckily, There is a Solution

If we want to escape these negative trends and find real fulfillment in life, there has to be a major shift in our thinking. We must realize that true fulfillment comes only from within. Nothing externally can bring us lasting fulfillment. Buying the latest gadget, getting a job that makes more money, having the perfect partner or  some other external thing will NOT complete us or bring true fulfillment.

Once we realize that fulfillment comes from our own mindset, we can re-prioritize what is truly important in life. From my experience, I have found that a recipe for fulfillment comes from appreciation and giving life a purpose.

Appreciation

First, let’s talk about appreciation. Life is a miracle in itself, just think about it. We are all floating on a big rock in the middle of space. Somehow we are kept alive by these incredible bodies we have. There is food naturally growing out of the ground to eat. There are tons of people around to make friends with. Living is pretty great!

My point is instead of focusing on what you don’t have, be thankful for what you do have and the fact that you’re even alive in the first place to experience the miracle of life.

Give Your Life a Purpose

Second, give your life meaning by focusing on how you can help people by creating value for others. If you’re spending your incredibly precious time, doing work that doesn’t help others, what the hell are you doing with your life? Chasing money is for dummies! Yes, you need a certain amount to survive, but once you are comfortable, getting more and more won’t increase your happiness.

What gets me fired up is inspiring people to explore the world. I feel that the more people who travel, the less divided we will be as humans. The less divided we are, the less fear there will be. With less fear, violence and wars will be reduced. Viola! Let’s be happy damn it!

Your life’s purpose doesn’t have to be like mine, but hopefully it got your brain wheels turning. What can you do to help other people? I assure you that if you find a cause you are truly passionate about, there will be a way to sustain a living from it.

Conclusion

Stop running away from your problems by turning to distractions such as needless buying, wasting time on social media, escaping your problems with alcohol or other destructive behaviors! If you don’t feel fulfilled with life, focus on appreciation and giving your life a purpose through creating value for others.

Remember that the key to fulfillment in life isn’t something external, it’s already inside of you.
