Finally I visited Koh Mak for the first time. If you’re unfamiliar, Koh Mak is a small island located in Thailand’s Trat province. This small island sits between Koh Chang and Koh Kood. Koh Chang is probably the most famous in the region but if you’re looking for a more relaxed vibe, check out Koh Mak. It’s much less developed than Koh Chang and feels a bit sleepy, making it a great place for a holiday getaway!

My three night trip to the island was spent at Mira Montra resort. I decided on it because it was ranked among the top hotels of the entire island.
Arrival
To reach Koh Mak from Bangkok, I took a bus from the Ekkamai bus station. The bus actually dropped me off directly at the Laem Ngob pier which was where I caught the speedboat arranged by the resort to the island. Once I reached Koh Mak the Mira Montra staff were on hand to assist with my luggage and bring me directly to the resort.
Resort Overview
Mira Montra is located on the north side of Koh Mak and made up of beachside villas and a string of standard hotel rooms on a hill. During my stay, I got to experience both types of accommodation. As I think you would guess, I preferred staying next to the beach in the villa the most!
Accommodations
Both Mira Montra’s villas and the standard hotel rooms had similar amenities which included comfortable beds and bedding, mini fridges, complimentary water and snacks, showers with good water pressure and temperature, flip-flops, safes, balconies, instant coffee and tea, and a kettle. The photos above are of the standard hotel rooms and the photos below are of the villas.
The big differences I saw was that the villa I stayed in had were a bathtub, outdoor shower, and a rooftop deck but other amenities were similar.
Facilities
The main feature of the Mira Montra resort was of course the beach. The area that the resort takes care of is beautiful and quiet. There was also a lovely pool to take note of, but for me, I’d rather swim right in the sea! The resort offered complimentary kayaks and standup paddle boards. I actually tried paddleboarding there for the first time and it was a lot of fun! There were other paid add-ons you could partake in as well such a snorkeling and motorbike rentals.
Food and Beverage
All meals take place in the resorts only restaurant located in the main building just next to the beach. When the weather was nice, it was an open-air dining room. When it rained, the staff closed the windows and the atmosphere definitely changed.
Breakfast
Mira Montra’s breakfast came in a buffet format but drinks were available à la carte. The breakfast buffet was medium-sized and offered a variety of Eastern and Western dishes. It had a little bit of something for everyone but was not super extensive. It did become a bit busy at breakfast time which did slow the service. That being said, the staff were very friendly no matter how busy it became. Looking out over the sea view while eating was something amazing!
Lunch and Dinner
The à la carte menu for lunch and dinner was quite sizable and where I felt the restaurant truly shined. I was honestly impressed with how fast they were able to turn out the dishes, and of the quality of the food. The staff were very efficient in this regard, and honestly each dish I tried really hit the spot. I can easily recommend you to try all of the dishes as I didn’t have anything I didn’t enjoy. One of my favorites was the spaghetti with softshell crab. There were lots of fruit juices and shakes to choose from as well but no alcohol available during my visit.
Conclusion
Overall, I definitely enjoyed my stay at the Mira Montra resort. It’s hard to beat such a lovely location on such a peaceful island. The staff were friendly and communicated fairly well, but the level of English could be improved a bit. I also enjoyed the accommodations but there were also areas where they could be improved. All in all, I did have a positive experience at the Mira Montra resort on Koh Mak!
