While staying in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam I had a river getaway at the An Lam river resort. The resort is located about 45 minutes by car or 30 minutes by boat from the center of the city. They have a free boat shuttle service which departs several times throughout the day. It was great to be able to step out of the hustle and bustle of Saigon, and experience a little nature.

My getaway started with being picked up by their private car and whisked away to the resort. The best way to describe the resort is being nestled in a jungle, along the riverside. There is a gorgeous pool in the center with lots of comfortable seating everywhere. They have a riverside restaurant that serves food throughout the day as well right in the middle of the property.

I was able to reserve a giant suite equipped with private pool. The decor was that of a jungle bungalow and comfortable indeed. Multiple sofas, a large desk, a cozy bed and a large bathroom with separate bathtub made this a great space. Don’t forget to order a Banh Mi sandwich with room service!

The grounds of the resort also feature a spa, small gym and open kitchen. Apparently the property was previously a private home converted to hotel. I really enjoyed how the living areas blended in with the nature.

After enjoying a great night sleep, I was excited to wake up and head down to the restaurant for breakfast. The breakfast was buffet style one day and a la carte the next, everything tasted fantastic. The Vietnamese coffee really packed a punch which was full of caffeine and sugar! The food and the cool breeze from the river were a great way to start the day.

During my stay, I got to have a fantastic dinner at the restaurant. They have both a Western and Vietnamese set menus to choose from. I went for the Vietnamese menu to try the local cuisine. I must say that during all of my time in Ho Chi Minh, this was one of the best Vietnamese meals I had! The most memorable dishes were the fried spring rolls and the beef. Full of flavor and incredibly juicy!

The An Lam resort offers a fantastic getaway from the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh. The service throughout my stay was flawless and I must commend them on the excellent food at breakfast and dinner. If you’re looking to relax in a natural environment and still have the option to explore the city life of Saigon, then I would suggest you to visit the An Lam River resort in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
