One of my stays on my Rome trip was at the Gran Meliá hotel. This hotel is located near the Vatican which is incredibly convenient. It’s not right in the center but close enough to feel more relaxed even though you’re still in the city.

When you reach the property, it feels like you are arriving at a private mansion. The compound is beautiful, with a gorgeous driveway, seating areas and an outdoor pool.
After checking in, I went to the six floor to see my new home for the next couple of nights. I walked in to see a large mural above the bed. There were two chairs with a table and then a desk below the TV. You can tell this hotel is quite new because of all of the advanced technology. For example, they have a phone called Handy which enables you to have internet while you’re roaming around Rome. Also, there’s a great coffee machine, lighting that can be controlled at several points in the room and a large walk-in closet.
From a design standpoint the bathtub is gorgeous. There’s actually a rain shower above the bathtub and it is enclosed in glass. Very beautiful indeed!
There’s a small gym on the first floor of the property. In the gym you’ll find three pieces of cardio equipment and then some weight equipment as well. There are free weights but they’re smaller size. The Gran Meliá Rome also offers a fairly extensive spa equipped with energy pool, steam rooms, tea station, sauna and a relaxation area. I’d definitely want to return for a treatment.
The hotel was nice enough to bring me a welcome gift of a bottle of champagne and a tray of fruit and sweets! Not only did it look gorgeous, it all tasted great as well.
I went to sleep after a great bath, sleeping like an angel. When I awoke, I was very excited to workout in the gym and then go to breakfast. The breakfast is on the H level in their Nectar bar and dining area. There is an impressive breakfast buffet with lots of fresh items for your choosing. They have all of the traditional western items but in addition, they have wonderful pastries, champagne and donuts. Overall, the breakfast looked and tasted fantastic.
Before I checked out, I had a chance to also enjoy a dinner at the Nectar restaurant. I started with a phenomenal tuna tartar. It was combined with avocado and was very refreshing. Second up was the Bucatini All’Amatriciana. This was a perfectly cooked pasta with red sauce and bacon. Seriously, one of the best pastas I’ve ever had! I would highly recommend the food, it was all incredible and nobody is paying me to say that. Wink. I also think that all countries should end their meals with Lemoncello!
As a complete package, I really enjoyed the Gran Meliá Rome. This hotel has a lot to offer. Its location is not right in the thick of things, yet it is very convenient at the same time. I will never forget how fantastic the breakfast and lunch were. A truly wonderful food and beverage department. The gym could be slightly larger but they make up for it and lots of other ways. All in all, I must say that I really enjoyed my time at the Gran Meliá Rome and I am sure that you will too!
