J’aime Restaurant Review (Bangkok, Thailand)

Last updated on October 30th, 2024

During my stay at the U Sathorn hotel in Bangkok, Thailand I had a chance to try their French restaurant called J’aime. I was just in France recently and excited to try more French food to see how it would compare. I can say that even though it was a “French restaurant” they clearly have lots of inspiration from the local cuisine. If you haven’t had a chance, you should definitely read about the amazing U Sathorn hotel!

During my stay I was actually able to enjoy two meals at the restaurant. They’re currently offering a lunch set menu which offers some tasty food. Let’s go through the lunch and then we can discuss the dinner afterwards. They started off the lunch with a bang. Some fantastic bread and one if their signature cocktails were splendid. We then moved on to a creamy soup which really hit the spot! Heaven.

After this were some wonderful quail eggs. Everything was so tasty I was very impressed. Then it was time for the main course. All of the flavors were quite fantastic but pork was a bit dry.

Finally it was time for the dessert. Let’s just stop and stare at the beautiful presentation. There’s a lot going on in this plate and I really enjoyed the different flavors. All in all, even though the pork was a bit dry, I did enjoy the lunch.

Now let’s move on to the big attraction, which was the dinner. For this, I invited a fellow food enthusiast to share in the experience. I ordered the six course tasting menu and he ordered the nine.

First, I want to start by saying that the atmosphere in the evening completely changes. It becomes a lot more elegant and is quite romantic if you’re on a date. To start the evening off right, I chose another signature cocktail which was called the Rush Hour. This was a beautiful cocktail which had an essence of the famous Thai food, Som Tum. This is the second cocktail I’ve had of this sort and I really enjoy when I drink something that has a completely different taste than what I’m used to. Think outside the box people!

I really enjoyed the cocktail but the proceeding courses didn’t excite me as much as I was hoping for. Although they were enjoyable, they just didn’t possess the same pizzazz that the lunch had.

However, that all changed when the pan seared red mullet with Mediterranean vegetables arrived. This was absolutely perfect. This was the turning point for the entire experience. From here on out everything became magical!

The next dish that really stuck out was the ginger scented heart of veal sweetbreads. What really stuck with me about this meal was how perfectly everything was cooked. Every bit of meat was super juicy and wonderful. It really made up for the other shortcomings.

When I was reading the menu, I saw so many desserts that I thought I had to choose just one. It turns out that the desserts are all included. Three in total! There was a mille feuille which is one of my all time favorite desserts. They also had a blackcurrant soufflé and a peanut and milk chocolate parfait. All items were really quite amazing! A spectacular finish for the evening. I enjoyed this all with a fantastic Muscat. Delicious!

When it was all said and done, I did enjoy the food overall at J’amie restaurant. I can appreciate that for a few of the dishes they tried something new and I especially liked the signature cocktails. Although the dishes were not all home runs there were still many high points during my time at the restaurant. There is definitely still some work to improve upon but overall, I think you will have a wonderful experience at the J’aime restaurant inside of that U Sathorn hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.
