Setting and Ambiance

The location is about 15 minutes drive west from Ao Nang, a resort town in southern Thailand’s Krabi Province. Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve offers stunning views of limestone islands jutting out of the sea just off the coast. The resort is spread out over a vast area of land and includes a variety of accommodations including a variety of villas and pavilions, most come with their own private pools. The resort boasts a stunning blend of modern architecture and traditional Thai design, seamlessly blending into its natural surroundings. Lush tropical gardens, swaying palm trees, and the sparkling Andaman Sea create a picturesque backdrop that will leave you in awe.

You can see the Thai influence most in the Sala Srichan welcome pavilion, designed in Lanna architecture by Lek Bunnag, a notable Thai architect.

Arrival

I arrived in the early afternoon during a short rain storm and was greeted with warmth and kindness by the staff. I was offered a welcome drink and then ushered to my Reserve Villa via their convenient and punctual buggy service which is always just a call away.

The Reserve Villas are one of the more premium accommodations at the Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. The villa was huge and offered lots of features including a private pool, outdoor daybed, indoor daybed, extra long bed, working desk, minibar, capsule coffee machine, outdoor bathtub, indoor bathtub, walk-in shower, sizeable closet, and a dual sink vanity. The design had a lot of character and featured hand painted Thai artwork. Overall, it was just a very well put together space with a very strong character and a beautiful view of the sea.

Spa and Wellness

Indulge your senses and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul at the resort’s exceptional spa. The tranquil spa sanctuary is an oasis of relaxation, offering a range of holistic treatments inspired by ancient Thai healing traditions. Highly skilled therapists use natural, organic products to enhance the wellness experience. From soothing massages to invigorating body scrubs, every treatment is designed to promote deep relaxation and rejuvenation. I personally experienced a sports massage by therapist Pui who did an absolutely impeccable job at reducing my muscle tension.

Fitness, Facilities, and Activities

Phulay Bay offers a multitude of activities and excursions for guests to embark on. One of my favorites was the free boat transfer to Hong Island offered daily. The island looks like it came right out of a fairytale. Hong Island boasts extremely pristine beaches, a nature trail, swimming beach, snorkeling, and a viewpoint at the top. You will have to pay the national park entrance fee but it is totally worth it!

The resort also boasts a very well equipped fitness center complete with personal trainer. I enjoyed my workouts immensely because of all the quality equipment.

Food and Beverage

Embark on a culinary journey at Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve and experience a symphony of flavors that will tantalize your taste buds. After eating at the property for a few days, I did enjoy both their International and Thai cuisine. I must admit that the Thai food was the clear winner if I had to choose. The Sri Trang restaurant really excelled and honestly offered some of the best Thai food I’ve had in a while (and I eat Thai food all the time.) The staff at all dining outlets also did a great job with their warm and attentive service. All this being said, I have to admit that some of the Western food could have been improved upon.

During my stay I also got to experience a very special dinner inside of the Sala Srichan. This can be a great venue for a wide variety of private dining experiences such as anniversary dinner, birthday, and more.

Service and Staff

One of the hallmarks of Phulay Bay is its exceptional service. The staff is genuinely warm, attentive, and anticipates your every need, making you feel like royalty from the moment you arrive. From the concierge to the housekeeping team, every staff member is dedicated to providing personalized and memorable experiences. Their attention to detail and genuine care for guests sets a new standard in hospitality.

I’d like to personally thank them (specifically my personal butler Mon) for their individualized service including the lovely welcome amenity!

Conclusion

My stay at the Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve was overall very lovely. This is one of the better hotels in the region and the staff really go above and beyond with their level of service. As mentioned, I was incredibly thrilled with the included boat transfer to Hong Island. The only real shortcomings I witnessed were with some of the Western food which had room for improvement. Hopefully, by the time of your visit these will already be resolved as I’ve discussed my concerns with the staff.

That being said, in conclusion, whether you seek relaxation, adventure, or a romantic getaway, Phulay Bay offers it all. Prepare to be enchanted by the beauty, luxury, and unparalleled service that await you at this extraordinary retreat!
