For those of you that know me, you’ll know all about my rich history in Bangkok, Thailand. For those of you who don’t know, I spent three years living in Bangkok, mystery solved. The first four months were during a study exchange program and the the rest were after I finished university. These were some of the most rewarding and exciting years of my life. I grew up a lot in that time, therefore Thailand will always have a very special place in my heart. I finally had a chance to return to this magical city. Right after my French river cruise in the south of France I hopped on a plane in Lyon and arrived in Bangkok in the morning.

My first stop was at the Riva Surya hotel along the Chaopraya river. This is a very quaint boutique hotel that has a lot to offer. The location is quite nice because it’s in the center of many tourism hot spots, as well as being on the river which gives it a very magical feel. Just next to the hotel is a boat pier where you can hop on a boat to easily get around Bangkok. If you didn’t know, Asia already has a very good reputation for hospitality. Therefore, I already had some expectations of the property and let’s just say I was not disappointed.
First and foremost, let’s chat about the room. The style had a strong beach house/villa feel. I really like this because it puts you in the vacation mood. Of course they had towels shaped like elephants on the bed with flower pedals. How romantic. What I really enjoyed about the room was the view. Absolutely gorgeous. Over the years, I have witnessed some of the most beautiful sky views in Bangkok. Lucky for me, these continued during my stay at Riva Surya.
The facilities of the hotel were also quite nice. They offer a beautiful pool in the center of the property with a wonderful seating area around it. I saw many hotel guests enjoying themselves by the pool but I had lots to do, so no time for lounging around! They also offer a small gym on the first floor. Inside you will find a treadmill, elliptical, free weights and a multipurpose machine with chin up bar that allow you to get a complete workout. I used the gym everyday and really appreciated the quality.
One of my favorite things about Thailand has to be the food. I knew before arriving that I was going to eat well at the hotel. My expectations were not only met, but thoroughly exceeded. Breakfast was off the chain! They had a very extensive buffet and the option to order eggs to your preference. Along with Western and Thai cuisine, they also offered Chinese and Japanese favorites. Everything was delicious!
Along with breakfast I was able to eat another meal at the hotel which was a lunch at their Babble & Rum restaurant. I was sure to order all of the traditional and amazing Thai dishes. I must say, that the meal was flawless. I would highly recommend you to enjoy one there yourself.
The owner of the property is also in the process of building a second hotel nearby which is called Riva Arun which is directly across the river from Wat Arun. They will be offering a rooftop restaurant which I am thoroughly excited to visit.
I must say that my experience at the Riva Surya hotel was just splendid. You really get a lot of value for your money and considering everything they have to offer, it’s quite impressive. They did not come up short anywhere! Next time you’re in Bangkok and you want to have a magical experience, I would highly recommend you to visit the Riva Surya hotel along the Chaopraya river!
