Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin: Bangkok’s Top Restaurant?

Last updated on October 25th, 2024

While staying at the incredibly lovely Siam Kempinski Bangkok Hotel, I had a chance to have a dinner at their famous Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin Restaurant. Read about the hotel here. According to the press release “Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin is recognised as the home of modern Thai gastronomy where exquisitely composed dishes are prepared using global cooking techniques with the best-quality seasonal ingredients.” I do think this sums up the restaurant perfectly! For the evening, I enjoyed their 8-course Winter Journey tasting menu with accompanied wine pairing. The menu is a collaboration between chef Henrik Yde-Andersen and chef Chayawee Suthcharitchan who is the head chef at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin.

Entering the restaurant gives a strong and delightful impression with it’s grand ceilings, lotus flower ponds, spaciousness, and unique booths which created an intimate setting. It was a unique setting which was relaxing and comfortable, and it’s design truly added to the soon to come, culinary adventure.

Soon after being seated by the warm and welcoming staff, we were served a welcome drink, a welcome tea, and also a few welcome bites. Unlike many restaurants who don’t seem to understand, Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin knows well that it’s important to start off with a bang! These bites had a strong punch of flavor which left me wanting more and built my excitement! Well done, seriously.

After warming up a bit, we moved onto the eight courses of the menu. One course that was very memorable was the Prawn Tom Yum soup with variety of prawn side dishes. The Tom Yum soup was incredibly bold and really left a strong impression on me! This paired with the prawn shumai, prawn bread, and prawn cracker left my head spinning.

Throughout the evening, the staff came to prepare various courses tableside which created a stronger sense of a journey rather than an average fine dining meal. This took the whole evening to the next level which I was really impressed with! This also gave us a chance to get to know our server better named Nancy. I literally had a smile on my face for the entire evening because of how tasty everything was and how much fun I had with the staff! We ate so many delectable bites.

Another dish that has stuck with me days after eating this amazing meal was the Yellow Curry with Crab Meat, Corn and Fermented Garlic. But really, I could appreciate every dish, incredible.

When it came to desserts, their pre-dessert was the one that hit me the hardest. It was the Flowers of Thailand which was created apparently by the chef after experiencing some inspiration inside of a taxicab in Bangkok. While Nancy explained the story I didn’t really understand until I took the first bite. After I got to taste and smell it, I immediately understood because it brought me right to the same place as what the chef had described.
