I’ve always been a huge fan of Greek food, this is why I was super excited to attend the Athens Walking Tour’s cooking class! The class focuses on creating traditional food that would be cooked in Greek homes. The course was taught by a lovely instructor who informed us that she learned the recipes from her mother and grandmother. For me this was better than if she was a professional chef!
The class revolved around creating a traditional Greek feast. We started the meal off with Greek alcohol called Tsipouro to get us in the mood. Accompanying the alcohol was toasted bread, feta, olives and tomatoes, all covered in olive oil. We were off to a great start even though we hadn’t prepared anything yet. We worked on dishes individually and the menu consisted of stuffed grape leaves, deep-fried zucchini balls, a Greek spinach pie, roasted lamb with potatoes and a yogurt with lemon for dessert.
Throughout the three hours of the lesson, we learned all of the ins-and-outs of how to make each dish. The instructor was a delight. The lesson took place in a prominent restaurant in Athens and provided a comfortable environment for the lesson.
Once we were done learning about Greek culture and how to make the food, we were able to enjoy it in the dining room of the restaurant. I must say I am quite the chef! All the food turned out quite good and I’d really love to cook these dishes at home!
I’ve always been a big fan of cooking classes and this one was great! I think it’s definitely a must-do while in Athens. Cooking classes are a great way to learn about culture through food. If you’re looking for a great activity in Greece, then I can highly recommend that you take the cooking class by Athens Walking Tours!
