I’ve had many fantastic Cantonese meals while in China and abroad. Some meals stand out much more than others, one happened to be at the Intercontinental Hotel‘s El Chino restaurant (华膳中餐厅) in Shenzhen, China. My stay at the Intercontinental was also quite notable and you can read about it here. I was pleased to find out that El Chino is quite popular with locals, which is usually a strong indicator of flavor!

El Chino’s dining room is gorgeous and spacious. The restaurant has several private dining rooms, ranging from small to mammoth. The largest private dining room looked like the set of a movie.
El Chino curated a lunch set menu for me, how thoughtful. Many of the dishes were simply fantastic! My favorites included the roasted meat combination plate, deep-fried black tofu with egg and black sesame, steamed prawn dumplings, steamed pork ribs with black bean sauce and of course the steamed red rice rolls with deep-fried dough stick. Each of these dishes were mouthwatering!
The dishes came at a steady pace, which matched the rate of shoveling food into my mouth. I liked the beautiful bowl they used for the dessert, which was a chilled mango sago with pomelo.
I was very impressed with the quality of the food at El Chino as well as the other restaurants inside of the Intercontinental Hotel in Shenzhen. The hotel has tons of food and beverage outlets. My most favorite was El Chino! Whether you’re visiting Shenzhen or a local, I’m confident you will not be disappointed with the Cantonese cuisine at El Chino restaurant inside of the Intercontinental Hotel in Shenzhen!
