I was living in Shenzhen last year, and never would have imagined that I would be returning just a few months after moving away. I was showing a close friend around the region, which included Hong Kong and Shenzhen. During the visit, we stayed at the Marriott Nanshan in Shenzhen, China. Marriott is one of those brands that tends to be very consistent. This consistency has been proven again and again at the dozens of Marriott properties I’ve visited worldwide.

We took a transfer from Kowloon, Hong Kong directly to Shenzhen Bay Port. From Shenzhen Bay Port to the Marriott Nanshan it was only a 10 minute taxi ride. The lobby on the 43rd floor blew my mind! This property boasts a very beautifully modern design. As with many other hotels in mainland China, there was a large atrium which creates a very strong sense of space. The hotel extends from the 43rd floor all the way up to the 62nd floor. After a smooth check-in process, I headed up to the 54th floor to take a look at my new home for the next three nights.

When I opened the door, the curtains automatically began to rise. This sudden burst of light created a very dramatic introduction to this well-designed space. The bedding in Marriott hotels is always something to appreciate because it’s consistently comfortable. Heavenly! The view from my room was breathtaking, and was easily enjoyed from the room-length sofa.

The bathroom wasn’t separated from the rest of the room, but could be closed off with its sliding doors. The bathtub, shower and toilet were all separated into their own areas, with plenty of space to move around.

Towards the top of the hotel you can find the executive club lounge of the Marriott Nanshan. I found the staff in the executive club lounge to be very warm and gracious, always smiling. The quality of the food in the lounge exceeded my expectations. You can’t lose with a view like this!

Overall, the Marriott club lounge offered an impeccable experience with its breakfast, afternoon tea and super-extended evening cocktail hour (4 hours if I remember correctly!)

On the 62nd floor you’ll find the fitness, spa and pool. The pool was quite lengthy and had fixtures hanging from the ceiling above it. The Marriott Nanshan did a great job at showcasing the breathtaking views from all public areas, including the gym.

On the lobby level, which is the 43rd floor, you’ll find the Nanshan Kitchen restaurant. At the Nanshan Kitchen you can enjoy the main breakfast, lunch or dinner and I wrote about the dinner buffet here. The breakfast at Nanshan Kitchen was much more extensive than the club lounge and equally as tasty.

It was actually my friend’s birthday, and the staff made her a special cake! Thanks Marriott!

As I said, the Marriott brand has never let me down. The level of service throughout the stay was impeccable. The Marriott properties I’ve stayed at in mainland China have all been great, but this was the best thus far! My previously high-expectations were blown away by this beautiful property. Without a doubt I would recommend you to stay at the Marriott Nanshan in Shenzhen, China!
