Pierre has been known to enjoy food from all around the globe. On his most recent trip to the Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur, he had a chance to eat at their famous Cantonese restaurant. The name of this restaurant is Lai Po Heen and is quite popular with locals and travelers alike.
The restaurant has the traditional interior design that you see in most Cantonese restaurants. This restaurant is on the classier side seeing that it is inside of the Mandarin Oriental hotel.
Lucky for me this was a meal with five people. This insured that I got to try a wide variety of dishes including some of my favorites. We started the meal off with an order of turnip cake which is nice and spicy. A “must order” in my opinion and here it was extra flavorful!
Of course, another one of my absolute favorites is hot and sour soup. This is a soup that I must order every time I visit a Chinese restaurant. I haven’t had them in years, but I also had to sample their chicken feet. They had me strutting like a rooster.
The food kept coming and coming, without any end in sight. Then it was pecking duck time! Super moist and full of flavor. Delicious.
A memorable part of the dining experience was one of the recommended mocktails. It paired perfectly with all of the food. There were too many dishes to name all of them but just know that the consistency was very high and all were quite amazing. Actually, none of the dishes disappointed me whatsoever. Everything was phenomenal even when it came to presentation.
For dessert, we were recommended the durian and mango pancakes. I was very intrigued by the thought of these. Inside there were pieces of the fruits with cream. The Durion was a bit stronger in flavor but still enjoyable. The mango was obviously good. I mean who doesn’t like mango?
This dining experience was nothing less than splendid. I really have no complaints. The service was impeccable and the food was super delicious. I love the atmosphere and you could tell that everyone else did too because it was busy. If you’re looking for a wonderful Cantonese meal, I would highly recommend you to visit Lai Po Heen inside of the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!
