Overall, out of the hundreds of restaurants that I have visited around the world, in my experience Chinese restaurants tend to be the most consistent when it comes great food. During my latest trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I ate at the Li Yen Chinese restaurant inside of The Ritz-Carlton hotel. Li Yen definitely continued this trend of consistent, high-quality flavors. On a side-note, be sure to read about The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur hotel in a this article.
It was close to Chinese New Year and thus the restaurant was quite busy. A busy restaurant is usually a good sign. We started the meal with hot and sour soup followed shortly after by fried anchovies with lotus root. These two dishes were phenomenal.
Next was probably the most exciting dish of the evening, which were the Beijing duck served in pancakes. These were already prepared for us, so all we had to do was put them in our mouths and savor. Orgasmic!
Another top dish of the evening was the lemon fried chicken. The presentation of this dish did not give any hints of the amazing flavor that was discovered after sinking our teeth in. The lemon chicken is a must order dish!
We ordered a half of Beijing duck, half was used for the pancakes and half was fried with noodles. About now was when the second half was served, and I must say that fried noodles with duck is a new favorite of mine!
To finish off the evening we went with an order of the mango pudding dessert. Pierre loves a nice, light Chinese dessert. When you’re stuffed, you really can’t be bothered with a heavy dessert. A perfect finish to a great evening.
The evening went off without a hitch. The classically designed dining room was on point, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Don’t hesitate, just visit the Li Yen Chinese restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!
