It was a beautiful spring day so I decided to walk to The Kensington from Mayfair. I arrived in the middle of the afternoon and was welcomed with a tasty welcome juice. Not to mention friendly staff that greeted me with a smile!
The check-in process was very smooth and before I knew it I was up in my suite. Mother of God. This is heaven! This is the classic luxury that I love the most. I’ll make sacrifices and stay in other places but deep down Pierre’s preferred style is classic elegance.
This place looks like it came right out of a fairy tale. Beautiful curtains, shiny chandeliers, a flawless bathtub and much much more. Upon checking in the woman next to me was checking in for 30 days and after experiencing the room I can see why. You simply can’t get this high-end classic luxury everywhere! During my stay I also treated myself to a dinner at the Kensington Townhouse restaurant which you will be able to read about in a separate article. I won’t give away the verdict but I’m sure if you get the tone of this article you’ll know what I’m going to say.
Around the same time as dinner the maid staff came to perform the turn-down service. I was absolutely thrilled to find the way that they rearranged the bedding. Normally, hotels will leave chocolates on the pillows which The Kensington did but then I discovered that they actually had a giant bowl of chocolate in the living room! I’m never leaving!
The breakfast also takes place in the same dining room as their Kensington Townhouse restaurant. It was recently refurbished and looks absolutely phenomenal. I can’t get over how perfect the styling is. It really can fit all times of day very well. Great job!
While traveling I like to try the local food as much as possible. Even if I’m in a hotel I will generally order the items that are harder to find elsewhere. In this case you know I had to order an English breakfast. On a side note, I’ve had black pudding in the past and was never overly excited about it. However, the black pudding at The Kensington is the best that I’ve ever had! I actually really enjoyed it. This even surprised me! They’re making all my dreams come true. The breakfast also had numerous amounts of staff that were eager to make sure guests were enjoying the meal. I was never left looking for anyone when I needed something.
In these classic hotels, I never expect too much from the their gyms. Simply because I’m sure that many years ago people did not focus on fitness in the same way that we do today. That being said the gym in The Kensington is actually quite impressive. Especially considering this type of hotel. When you first walk into the gym you think it’s small but it actually extends back into another room. It truly has everything you could possibly need to stay fit.
I love how the hotel pays super close attention to the finer details. For example, the candy bowl that I mentioned earlier. This is a guaranteed way to make sure that everyone likes you. Give them candy, lots of candy. They also have fine glassware in the rooms for your use. Another small detail I really liked was that instead of having small containers of lotion they have large containers in the bathrooms so you’re sure not to ever run out unless you’re dry as the desert. The last feature that was nice was that they brought us flower tea in the evening as part of the turn-down service.
If you have a taste for the finer things then you’ll have to visit The Kensington hotel in London. I could not find any faults in my experience and that is why I will rank this hotel so highly! Truly from the bottom of my heart I recommend that you visit The Kensington as soon as possible!
