Am I really eating in a library right now? Yes! One of the most interesting restaurant interiors that I have ever witnessed would have to be at The Cinnamon Club in London’s Old Westminster Library.
The design is truly unique and offers a warm ambiance and great place for conversation. It does get quite loud inside the restaurant but it’s not overbearing. The food is claimed to be Indian. However, an Indian person might be a little lost with the menu. I believe a better summary of the food would be Indian inspired.
We settled in for a three course meal to see what they had to offer. Starting with some bread and chutney we got an idea of what would be next. The first dish that I really enjoyed had to be the lamb starter. It was quite fantastic and offered some exquisite flavor combinations. I’ve never had lamb with capers. There was also a lobster starter which was beautifully presented and also had an interesting flavor but didn’t knock my socks off.
Possibly the best thing we ate during the entire meal was in between the starters and the entrées. Something so simple but so tasty was their lemon sorbet. They said it was to clear our pallets before we had the next round of wine and entrées. It definitely did the trick! It was absolutely incredible. Seriously, I can still taste it now.
For the mains we went with a prawn dish and a venison dish. I would have to say that I enjoyed the venison more than the prawns. The prawns were unique and I respect that but I don’t think that the sauce paired that well with the prawns.
To finish off the meal we had a couple desserts including a green cardamom brule with rose petal biscotti. This was also something that stuck out in the meal. An exquisite flavor that I would highly recommend when you visit!
I must also mention that throughout the meal the sommelier was very kind and paired some great wines with each course. She did a wonderful job and left us very delighted. Smiles.
At the end of the day, the meal was overall good but had some more to be desired with some of the dishes. Food is very important in a meal but if you factor in the entire experience I would still rank this restaurant fairly well. The decor, the service and ambiance were all very fantastic and produced a quite wonderful evening. This is why I believe that The Cinnamon Club is worth a visit!
