It has been many years since I first came to India. At that time, I wasn’t yet a blogger. Recently, I got a 10 year India visa and booked a trip back to this intriguing nation! The first stop was at the Novotel Kolkata Hotel. The hotel is currently the largest hotel property in the city, offering tons of event space along with its many rooms.

The Novotel Kolkata Hotel is located in New Town, which is a fast-growing neighborhood of Kolkata, not too far from the airport or the city center. I had arranged an airport transfer in advance because we arrived very early in the morning. It was a very smooth pickup process and made the whole experience stress-free. Before we knew it, we had pulled up to the front door, and then entered the lobby where we were greeted with a welcome drink!

The third floor room was part of the residence side of The Novotel Kolkata, meant for long-stay guests. The studio room was spacious and even had a kitchen. There was dining area, with a table and two chairs, a desk, sofa and comfortable bed.

The bathroom was equipped with fair-trade toiletries, a shower stall and separated toilet stall. The bathroom was on the smaller-side, but had everything needed to be comfortable.

The feature of the Novotel Kolkata that excited me the most, were the quality food and beverage outlets. There are a handful of outlets to choose from, and offer a decent variety of cuisines that you surely won’t get tired of. During the majority of our stay, we ate at The Square Restaurant, on the lobby level. This is where breakfast is served, but also their all-day dining restaurant. We ate so much amazing food that I had to write an entirely separate article about The Square, which you can read here. The chefs went the extra mile, and were very passionate about their food, especially Chef Neelabh Sahay. He took us under his wing and taught us the ins and outs of Indian cuisine.

For now, we can discuss the International Breakfast Buffet which was primarily focused on Indian food. One of my personal favorites of the morning was the Indian Dosa. The kitchen was open so we could watch the chef at work, creating magic. Throughout our many breakfasts, the staff were incredible. Some of the better dining room service I’ve had in a while!

One of our lunches we were able to try their in-room dining. The Novotel Kolkata put together multi-course Western menu for us to try. Eating in comfort is always a plus.

Down one floor from the lobby, you’ll find the hotel’s pool, fitness center and spa. The pool is quite visually appealing. There is a terrace above, which looks down over the pool. The gym had a wide variety of equipment. I was eating so much during the stay, I needed a great a place to burn the excess calories. The gym also has changing rooms equipped with a steam room and sauna. Be sure to make sure they have them turned on, before your visit.

The Novotel Kolkata Hotel also features a Club Lounge. The Club Lounge offers afternoon tea and evening cocktail hour, complete with hors d’oeuvres. There is no breakfast served at the lounge.

My expectations were exceeded during the stay, and I definitely left with a smile on my face. The service was very delightful overall at The Novotel Kolkata, but did have some room for improvement. The location is also something to note in your decision making process. All in all, the stay at Novotel Kolkata was a good one!
