When deciding to stay at The Novotel Hotel in Kolkata, India, I didn’t consider their level of culinary expertise. Once I arrived, settled in, and had a few meals, I realized that I had stumbled upon an Indian food paradise! Executive chef Neelahb Sahay, Sous Chef Sougata Gupta and the rest of the Novotel food and beverage team impressed me with their flavorful Indian meals and quality service. This was some of the best Indian food I’ve ever consumed ever!
Throughout the stay, which you can read about a separate article, I was able to sample countless Indian dishes, from all over India. Most focused on the local Bengali Cuisine. Nearly every dish I ate I fell in love with, that’s saying a lot, especially considering we ate dozens of dishes. Chef Sahay and the team have a real passion for bringing quality food to the masses.
When creating so many dishes, it’s quite difficult to be consistent with perfect flavor, somehow The Novotel Kolkata pulled it off. Their main restaurant is known as The Square, and offers all-day dining options. From morning till evening I ate delicious food. Some of my favorites where the Biryani, Makhani Gravy, Puchka, Muri aka puffed rice and the Chicken Tikka Masala. There were tons more dishes that I also enjoyed, I just can’t remember all of the names!
The entire food and beverage team at The Novotel Kolkata really know what they’re doing. Throughout my stay, I was able to have several discussions with each of them, I learned a lot more about India’s rich cultural history, especially when it came to food.
Not only was the food fantastic, but it was paired with a very lovely level of quality service. The only room for improvement in my book would be the design of the dining room, but that comes second when the food is so delicious! Visiting The Square Restaurant at The Novotel Kolkata is worth the trip!
