The Swissotel Hotel in Kolkata is located in a part of the city called New Town. The property is only 15 minutes away from the Kolkata International Airport, which makes it very convenient for travelers. If you’d like to reach the city center, it will take approximately a 30 minute drive. Here you can breathe easy as it’s not very congested. There is a mall just next door which has tons of shops and restaurants which also makes things convenient.

Upon my evening arrival, I received a welcome drink from the staff. The lobby had a gorgeous flower arrangement and I could feel a sense of luxury. Right away, the warmth from the staff made me feel instantly at home.
During my extended-stay I was able to try out two room types. They were both Swiss Executive Rooms, but the second had a private outdoor Jacuzzi. The rooms offered the same features including a Lavazza Capsule Coffeemaker, comfortable working desk, lounge chair, super soft bedding and a sizable bathroom. I’d like to take note of the bedding, as the top layer of the mattress was incredibly soft. I slept like a baby!
The bathroom had a shower and great quality toiletries. This shows me that the Swissotel Kolkata is willing to go the extra mile for its guests. Nothing worse than when a hotel won’t offer quality toiletries. Good job Swissotel Kolkata!
The staff had a team of professional towel animal makers at our disposal.
On the seventh floor of the hotel, you’ll find the gym, rooftop pool and Splash Restaurant. The infinity pool is gorgeous in itself, and has a splendid view of Kolkata.
The Swissotel Fitness Center has plenty of equipment for all, and has stunning views of the infinity pool. There are changing rooms that have showers, but there are no steam rooms or saunas. What I did enjoy is the fact that the lockers had bathrobes, slippers and towels inside. I love finishing my workout, taking a relaxing shower, and then changing into a comfortable bath robe, before retiring to my room. Hair gel, razors and other items are available upon request.
Down one floor from the pool and gym you’ll find Cafe Swiss, their all-day dining restaurant. The dining room’s high ceilings make it feel very spacious, almost like you’re outdoors. There are both indoor and outdoor seating options. The breakfast at Cafe Swiss focuses on Indian cuisine, but also has a decent level of International dishes. It’s possible to order several items a la carte, including Indian dosas, and eggs cooked to your preference. During breakfast, the staff came around with special items for guests to sample. I could feel the love!
The chefs at Cafe Swiss will make sure you never leave hungry! Throughout my extended stay, I sampled countless Indian dishes, as well as International cuisine for several meals. Cafe Swiss also had their Mango Brunch during my stay. India has a half-dozen or so varieties of mangoes and also a host of dishes that feature them. All in all, my favorites for the stay tended to be the Indian dishes.
The Swissotel Kolkata has other food and beverage outlets, including Maaya and Durbari. Durbari is their ever-popular Indian restaurant and Maaya is their bar and lounge. Durbari provided me with one of the best meals of my life, so obviously I had to write in more detail about the restaurant, which you can read about in this article. For now, we can discuss Maaya which has an impressive selection of alcohol and delightful food menu. Maaya has both indoor and outdoor seating, both with enjoyable ambiance. The drinks were also great!
It’s also important to note, that the chefs throughout the property are true professionals at cooking incredibly tender meat! Whatever restaurant you’re in at The Swissotel Kolkata, I’d recommend their meat options!
During the stay, we also had a chance to experience The Swissotel Kolkata’s lovely room-service. Both breakfast and dinner were fantastic, both service and food! For the meals, we were served impressive feasts that are sure to please Indian food lovers. This was not a typical in room dining experience, this was something very impressive.
The Swissotel Kolkata Hotel offers tons of event space, making it a popular hotel for corporate functions. During our stay we were witness to at least 3 large events.
As I had a Swiss Executive Room, I had access to the Swiss Executive Club Lounge, located on the fifth floor. At the lounge, soft drinks are served all-day and starting at 5:30pm cocktails and hors d’oeuvres are served. There is a modest selection of both alcoholic beverages and snacks. Not a lounge to replace your meals, but enjoyable nonetheless. The lounge does not supply a breakfast or afternoon snack.
When it was sadly time to depart from this lovely property, I was sure to arrange a hotel airport transfer. The service was great and made departing a breeze! I would recommend you do the same.
The Swissotel Kolkata Hotel Staff went above and beyond the call of duty during my stay. What struck me most was how they showed that they truly cared about the well-being of their guests. This genuine human touch went a long way in my book. Although most times everything went smooth, there were a few areas to improve, such as the design of the public areas and some service hiccups. All in all, the property’s offering was pleasurable, and I can say that The Swissotel Kolkata will always hold a very warm place in my heart!
