One of my last meals in Bangkok was to The Reflexions French Restaurant at the famous Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel. This is one of the hotel’s staple restaurants and while some restaurants are changed, Reflexions will be around for years to come.
The Reflexions team put together a set menu for my visit, comprised of six courses. Chef Roxanne got us off to an exciting start with a few bites that were bursting with flavor. One of my favorites was the tuna. Another was a smoky amuse bouche placed inside of a wooden log.
As we ate our first few bites the pianist arrived, the music fit our experience perfectly.
The first course of the evening was a Hokkaido scallop with pomello and pesto. Not only did this dish look magical it tasted lovely. The sauce was bursting with flavor making a truly remarkable dish with a combination of flavors I didn’t know would fit together.
Next up was the Iberian ham with tomato and yuzu. This dish really needed to be enjoyed with all parts at the same time to taste its best. Eating the ingredients separately might be a bit overwhelming, but together they made for a lovely team of great flavor. This dish had a strong refreshing bite.
Another one of my favorites was the Boston lobster served with roasted carrot, pumpkin and orange. The lobster was juicy and slightly sweet, a flavor I was used to coming from the states. The vegetables and fruit in this dish were incredibly refreshing as well.
The main course of the evening was the Challan Duck with red current and duck sauce. Challan ducks are French ducks raised for their super tender meat. By appearance, the duck looked very crispy and almost hard but when you bite in you’ll easily slide through the tender meat. My mouth is watering just thinking back about this memorable dish!
An unexpected dessert suddenly appeared, a meringue set ablaze right in front of us!
The main dessert of the evening was listed on the menu as “Strawberry and Yogurt.” Obviously, this was much more than that. This dessert played heavily on various textured items, all sweet and all tasty.
The evening at The Reflexions was practically flawless! I really loved the live piano. The staff were no strangers to the fine dining scene, and they offered great service throughout the meal. Nearly every dish I ate, I fell in love with. It was my style, bursting with bold flavors and exposed me to combinations I hadn’t tried before! This was a culinary journey I’d be happy to go on again and again!
