On the top floor of the Grand Hotel Wien, there are two restaurants. One of them is called Le Ciel. From their website it says that the food combines elements of classic French cuisine with Austrian accents.
The first feature I noticed about the restaurant was the stunning dining room. Simply magnificent! I was also staying in the hotel at the time of this dinner and you can read the review of the Grand Hotel Wien in a separate article. The restaurant is very elegant. A Bright atmosphere with amazing accents throughout. I must say that this is one of my favorite styles!
The flavors of the food were not typical. This might shock some people, but in reality, it was absolutely superb. This was definitely a meal to remember. We started with a few different appetizers. These were not all on the menu but tasty and interesting nonetheless. My favorite of these would be a small portion of tuna which was super flavorful and presented beautifully.
There was also something to note from the beginning of the meal, this was the bread. Often times, bread is overlooked but not at Le Ciel. There was one that was flaky like a croissant and it was out of this world.
I will pause for a moment and step back and talk about the service. It’s important to note, that the dining room was completely full. Even with so many people, the staff did a wonderful job of always making sure that our glasses were full and that we were happy. Bravo.
It was asparagus season and every Austrian restaurant that I went to made this known. Therefore, it was only right that the next dish be an asparagus dish. It was very flavorful and combined a variety I was not accustomed to but really enjoyed!
The main course finally arrived. I went with a veal that came accompanied with asparagus and morel mushrooms and other odds and ends. Let’s first start by saying that the presentation was perfection. This dish just looks great. Although the presentation and the taste were quite nice, the meat was a little bit on the tougher side. That being said, I still really enjoyed it along with the combination of asparagus and mushrooms. It felt like I was eating the forest and I loved it.
The meal was going very well and I was happy with everything that came to the table. This was including the wine, we sampled many different types. After all of these courses, it was time for the dessert and I must say this is where it got extra exciting. For example, the first was beet based. It was quite exquisite and combined many interesting flavors. How many times of you had a dessert with beets in it? There were three others, all fantastic.
When the meal was over, I was incredibly happy and satisfied. So much creativity and all of if it worked out perfectly. It was like watching a masterpiece unfold in front of our eyes. I must say that this was definitely a meal for the record books, it was simply lovely and I would highly recommend you to visit Le Ciel when you are in Vienna!
