Dubai has such a beautiful skyline, it might be difficult to choose where is the best place to enjoy it. One must consider if they want to see its entirety or perhaps they want to sit right in it. While visiting the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai Hotel, which you can read about here, I paid a visit to Vault.
I arrived to the 71st floor of the JW Marriott Marquis’s Tower A and stepped into Vault. Immediately, I was enthralled with the incredible views of Dubai! In my opinion, Vault offers the best view of the Burj Khalifa in the city.
Vaults offers tons of seating options, which are all very comfortable. We tried two cocktails for the evening which were Vault Member and Amor Oscuro. Not only did I enjoy the drinks, but also sampled some enjoyable food. Both the chicken wings and the charcuterie platter were exactly what I desired. The charcuterie platter was presented in a very unique way as well.
Overall, the drinks were decent and the food was lovely. Where Vault really shines, is its incredible view of Dubai. If you’re looking for one of the best views of the city, I can highly recommend Vault for your destination to enjoy the skyline of the Dubai!

After living around East Asia for the past seven years, I’ve gotten to know the majority of the Asian cuisines quite intimately. I never know what to expect when I find “Oriental” restaurants outside of the region. Lucky for me, I was pleasantly surprised by the Dashanzi Restaurant inside of the JW Marriott Juhu Hotel in Mumbai, India.
The evening started off with an oriental themed Gin and Tonic flavored with yuzu and infused gin. The Beverage Manager Bensan Varghese showed us his skills with this cocktail and several others offered at Dashanzi. We even had a private session with Bensan to learn more about all of his creations, which I will discuss later. To accompany the Gin and Tonic we were offered an interesting presentation of rice crackers which turned out to be very very tasty.
We sampled several popular items from the Dashanzi menu throughout the evening. I was surprised and impressed with the above-average quality of their salmon sashimi. Another dish that caught my attention was the Oatmeal Chicken. When a Westerner thinks of oatmeal, they tend to think of the breakfast item complete with sugar and cinnamon, but at Dashanzi it’s different! The oatmeal takes on a new spicy and crispy identity. The oatmeal and chicken are fried and bursting with flavor, keeping the oatmeal crunchy and the chicken juicy, this dish is a must try!
Dashanzi is more than just a restaurant, it’s also a full-on bar with lots of unique cocktails. We visited on a separate occasion to sample some of these special cocktails, including a Calypso, which is a cocktail that includes Thai chili, Jensen gin, syrup and pineapple juice. This cocktail alone is a good example of the kind of exciting combinations Bensan Varghese and his team are hard at work creating.
Dashanzi also offers brunch! At the brunch you will find a large selection of dim sum, sushi, a handful of wok-fried dishes, desserts and more. Overall, I was quite impressed by the quality, flavor and selection of items.
I also have to mention that they did an absolute impeccable job at helping to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday! The whole team helped to make the night super special, thus a perfect spot to spend your special occasion. The chef performed a table-art dessert which was not only beautiful but delicious. Thank you again and well done JW Marriott Juhu Mumbai Team!
All in all, despite having the generic “oriental cuisine” stamp Dashanzi does a surprisingly good job at producing some very tasty food. I also have nothing but positive things to say about other restaurants at the JW Marriott Juhu Hotel in Mumbai. Be sure to read about the hotel here. Whether it’s for drinks, a meal or brunch I can easily recommend you to visit Dahsanzi in Mumbai!

With the plethora of sky bars in Bangkok, Thailand, it can be hard to choose which one is best! I’ve got a few favorites, but with all the new options popping up, I’m always up to try something new. While staying at the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park Hotel near BTS Phrom Phong, I visited their rooftop bar called ABar & ABar Rooftop.
ABar & ABar Rooftop is actually comprised of two levels, one partially indoor and one on the rooftop. We started the evening off on the rooftop, which focuses on high-quality gin. We ordered their signature serves, number two and number three. Both offered lots of depth in their flavors. I personally preferred number two the best!
From ABar & ABar Rooftop, you can see many different parts of the city. Lots of large sofas are available to make sure you are comfortable!
Going downstairs one floor, the feeling of the venue changes immensely. Here is where we found the food menu and lots of drink options. The interior design of the lower level feels like a dark Western-style lounge.
The cocktails went down smooth and we also put it in an order for sliders, fried chicken, French fries and ribs. With complete sincerity, I can say every item was delicious! They also serve complimentary banana chips with drink orders.
The ABar & ABar Rooftop atop the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Bangkok is an impressive venue! With incredible panoramic views, high-quality food and great cocktails, this is a strong contender for Bangkok’s best rooftop bar!

I was staying at the Intercontinental Hotel in Shenzhen, China and had a fantastic meal at their Brazilian barbecue restaurant called Alenha. After the meal, my friend and I went up to the whiskey bar above the lobby. This venue felt like a private lounge in a Western country. Be sure to read about the rest of the Intercontinental Shenzhen here.
The design of this place was stunning, a very classic Western style bar and lounge. This whiskey lounge has several private rooms ranging in size and theme. In the main area of the lounge you’ll find lots of very comfortable seating areas, from large booths to lounge chairs.
Lounge 1982 has a very large international selection of high quality whiskeys. For the evening our fantastic host served us The Japanese Hakushu Single Malt whisky aged 18 years and the Scottish Octomore Edition 07.1 whisky aged 5 years. Both were delicious in their own rights, the Octomore packed a strong punch at 60% alcohol.
Personally, I really enjoy this type of space! Lounge 1982 provides the perfect setting for an intimate conversation, while being able to enjoy some of the best whiskeys worldwide. If you don’t finish your whiskey don’t fear, you can leave it in one of their VIP lockers and resume consumption on your next visit!

Hong Kong has one of the most notorious skylines in the world. I love visiting this beautiful city and taking in the amazing views. On my most recent trip, I visited SKYE at the top of The Park Lane Hong Kong a Pullman Hotel, where I also was staying. You can read about the hotel stay here.
SKYE is located in Causeway Bay, just next to Victoria Park. For the evening, we went for the degustation menu. The menu consisted of six courses, but ended up being more like 8 or 10! Wahoo! I kept telling myself that I wasn’t going to drink all of the alcohol that was paired with the courses, but in the heat of the moment, it was hard to resist such tasty drinks. Our sommelier stuck with Spanish and Portuguese wines for our culinary adventure. I knew the night would be good when we were served three glasses of Sherry, at once. Around the same time, we were served our an amuse bouche, the salmon with with wasabi mayo was my favorite!
Our first course for the evening and one of my favorites, the yellow fin tuna tartare with a purple rice cracker. You don’t see purple rice crackers everyday!
A course that I really need to take special note of, was the foie gras with abalone. I’m not typically a huge fan of foie gras, but this made me fall in love. Well done SKYE!
Next up were the Hokkaido scallops and Scottish langoutines. The langoustines were incredibly tender and sweet, served with cucumber jelly. An impressive dish to say the least.
Our main entrée was a 45 day in-house dry-aged sirloin of beef. With this there was a 2010 Herdade do Mouchao Tinto from Portugal and a 2013 Bodegas La Horra “Corimbo” from Spain. It was nice to have two different wines with steak to bounce back and forth between.
After the lovely main course, we moved on to the warm Camembert cheese with dried fruit, and then the final dessert, known as the Victoria sponge. The desserts were accompanied with a Tawny Port by W and J Graham’s aged for 20 years, which was my favorite drink of the evening.
After this feast that was fit for King Pierre, it was time to step out to the bar to have yet another alcoholic drink and a few snacks while we took in the amazing view. Whether you want to have a great drink or enjoy high-end food, or both, look no further than the SKYE restaurant and bar at The Park Lane Hong Kong a Pullman Hotel.

SKYE Restaurant and Bar Hong Kong: Superb Food, Drinks and Views in Hong Kong
While staying at the Fairmont Royal York hotel, I definitely wanted to try a dinner at their EPIC restaurant. This is also where they have their daily breakfast and a great bar.
It’s just beside the hotel lobby and I must say I really liked the bar design.
After finishing up some hors d’oeuvres upstairs at the Fairmont Gold lounge, I came down to experience a meal. I kept seeing advertisements for their cocktails from the EPIC bar, so I definitely wanted to try one. I went with an Apple Manhattan which came with a cinnamon stick. This blew me away! Definitely worth a try.
For food, I started out with an order of scallops. The scallops were served alongside brussels sprouts. I must say that this was a fantastic way to start the meal and I really enjoyed this dish. The scallops were cooked to perfection and just mouthwatering.
For the main course, I went with the 16oz bone-in ribeye! The steak was a work of art. You can see that it was cooked perfectly. When I order a steak, I don’t usually consider what’s coming with it. However, the vegetables that accompanied the steak were splendid! Some of the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had. Every single bite of this meal was just fantastic.
The staff were kind enough to offer some glorious ice wine from the Niagara region of Canada. They also sent over macaroons that were a nice touch to finish off the meal. It was then all over, and I must say that everything was great. I’d like to return as soon as possible to try more of their amazing food. If you’re in Toronto, I would highly recommend that you try a meal at the EPIC restaurant inside the Fairmont Royal York hotel.

I have to admit that I was already a big fan of the Park Hyatt in Vienna before my most recent visit. I visited the hotel last October and you can read about my stay during that time in this article. This time around, was not for a stay, but all about food and drink. In March, they released their new concept for The Bank Brasserie and Bar. As soon as I heard the news, I was super excited to visit!
This concept takes place in their beautiful historic banking hall. This amazing room really left a strong impression on me during my first visit. It’s where I had breakfast and I couldn’t help but admire all of the details throughout the hall. Now, I was here a few months later having dinner.
We started the meal off right with a great surprise. I told my server what type of spirit I was interested in, and he brought something unique. I believe the name of the cocktail was called “Wood it Be” and it came in such a unique cup. Very tasty and refreshing indeed.
For the first order of food, we went with a half order of their enormous seafood platter. Even though it was a half order, it was still very large! All of the seafood on the platter, was amazing and of the highest quality.
For the next round of enjoyment, we went with a stuffed squid and a shallot tarte tatin. I must admit that I fell in love immediately with the stuffed squid. It was stuffed with blood sausage and I’m becoming a huge fan of this type of sausage.
Looking back, I think if I had to do the meal over, I would try more of their cocktails because they offer many signature cocktails. For this meal, I had a chance to try the one and then stuck with wine for the remainder, which was also nice. I guess I’ll have to wait until next time!
For the main event, I ordered a flank steak, if you’re unfamiliar, it’s a cut from the lower stomach. It came with seasoned fries that were out of this world. The steak itself had great flavor but I believe because of the cut, was a little bit tough.
I must admit that the traditional Austrian dessert known as the Schmarrn won my heart. What a wonderful combination of flavors, I highly recommend it.
I have to say, all in all, this meal was absolutely stupendous. Just being in this grand banking hall left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling! This beautiful atmosphere accompanied with great service, fantastic food equals a very happy Pierre. I must say that if you are looking for a wonderful experience, you should check out The Bank Brasserie & Bar in Vienna!

Milan was short but sweet! What a beautiful city! During my stay at the Park Hyatt Milan I gave their Mio bar a shot. The hotel design is really nice and equally nice is the dining room and bar.
Going in for dinner at Mio bar I really had no idea what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the dining room. Unlike the name suggest, the bar actually is a complete restaurant. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas. We opted for the indoor seating because it was a little chilly out.
We met with our server and made our ordering decisions. To warm up the palate, we were served some bread and dry-aged meat. They also have a wide variety of meat at the hotel breakfast buffet, which Pierre really enjoys!
For starters we went with eggplant and a caprese salad. I had a feeling that it would be some fantastic cheese and it was indeed.
For the main, I was really torn because I haven’t had a burger in a while and they had one that sounded incredible. However, I was in Milan, and I don’t know when I’ll be back next, so I went with something local. My choice ended up being a veal cutlet that was deep-fried Milanese style. I’m sure the burger would’ve been good but this was amazing!
Accompanying our amazing entrées were some vegetables including artichokes. Both were nice to take a break from all the meat. We of course went with some Italian red wine to accompany all of our meat as well. Everything was fantastic and exceeded my expectations!
We had strategically planned to not stuff our face so we could save room for dessert. For this, I would have to say that my ice cream selection was by far my favorite dessert. All of the flavors were good but the vanilla was out of this world!
My time in Milan was short and amazing. I had a chance to fully explore the city and eat some great food. I was very happy that I visited the Mio bar at the Park Hyatt Milano. The ambiance, service and the food are an incredible match to make a really complete offering. I would highly recommend that you visit the Mio bar next time you’re in Milan!

I was touring around Portugal and the last two days I was in Estoril at the Intercontinental hotel. They have a small Portuguese restaurant just next-door to the hotel that I really wanted to try during my stay. Lucky for me I didn’t have to walk farther than a few meters from the hotel. If you haven’t yet, make sure you take a look at the Intercontinental Estoril review! Wink.
Much like the hotel the dining room in the restaurant felt very fresh and new. Just for me? Thanks Intercontinental, you shouldn’t have. It was absolutely beautiful with a perfect view of the water. I’m sure in the summertime with great weather this place would be a perfect spot to sit outside!
Soon after we sat down the lights were dimmed and and this made Pierre very happy because he appreciates a good ambiance. Then we were served some warm-up food a.k.a. starters. We decided to go with the chef’s recommendations for the entirety of the meal. All the starters were wonderful and familiar because they also offer them in the hotel lounge. How convenient.
Up next was an octopus ceviche. Mother of god! This put all of my favorite flavors into one dish. I love anything that is sour, salty or has olives in it and this had them all! A very strong flavor but just perfect. Nothing is too strong for Pierre!
The entire meal was paired with Portuguese wine which was a given because it’s Portuguese food. The first was Soalheiro Alvarinho with many more to follow!
The second starter that we had was a scallop dish that… drumroll please, had bacon foam, crispy bacon all over with a pea purée. As soon as you start talking about bacon I’m interested. This dish was magical!
For our first set of starters we had a risotto with seafood and champagne foam. Our chef clearly loves using foam and we did as well! The risotto had a great taste but the fish was a bit dry. It was then onto a new wine and a new main course. This was a piece of salmon over broad beans with chorizo. Much like bacon, if you say chorizo Pierre is very intrigued. This dish also had exquisite flavors that I was not used to trying together. It was paired effortlessly.
Before we knew it, it was time for dessert. Time flies when you’re having fun! We were given a very long explanation about how amazing our dessert wine was. It was a winner for best Moscatel in previous years and I was very excited to try. It was a 2002 Bacalhoa Moscatel ROXO Superior. It was like drinking heaven! So smooth, yet so complex.
Along with the dessert wine, we also had my favorite dessert of my entire Portugal trip. This dessert also might be one of my favorites that I’ve ever had. Yowza! There was so much on the plate to try! Different types of ice cream, sorbets and chocolates, all with magnificent flavors.
This meal was amazing! At the end of the day, the flavors were so good that I have to rank it well, along with the atmosphere and the service. You must try Atlântico restaurant in Estoril, Portugal at the Intercontinental hotel now!

Of course while in New York I had to pay a visit to the Pierre hotel. I would have to say the name of the hotel is in very good taste. I actually didn’t stay at the hotel during this trip but I did have a chance to visit their Two E Bar and Lounge. It’s a quaint little establishment just through the lobby. I invited New York food blogger Dara aka the SkinnyPigNYC along to enjoy the experience.
The styling of the hotel along with the lounge is of a luxurious fashion which Pierre is very accustomed to. Only the finest for me please. I’ve spoke about it in past articles but this is the type of elegance that I truly appreciate.
We walked into the lounge to be greeted by a friendly bartender named Paul. We got a nice table that had a great view of the piano. Throughout the evening there was a pianist who set the mood quite nicely.
Our server came and we basically ordered the entire menu. Dara and I enjoyed most of the items but specifically the chicken wings and the Reuben sandwich. The chicken wings were the juiciest chicken wings I think I’ve ever had. Great work Two E. The Reuben was perfect. It had crispy bread, gooey melted cheese and juicy meat. A work of art. Seriously.
Obviously, we ordered a few cocktails along the way. All were done quite nicely and were delightful to drink with the food. Who would have thought that alcohol and food would go so well together? Har har.
Our server provided fantastic service throughout the meal. Whenever we had a question he was right there ready to answer. That said, it was exactly what I would expect from a hotel of this caliber. Especially with a name like Pierre.
We got so stuffed with food and alcohol but then it was time for dessert! Both choices we made looked beautiful and had a taste to match! Of course we had to make sure our digestive systems were in order so we ended with a little more alcohol.
All in all, the evening at Two E was quite spectacular. Not all of the dishes knocked our socks off but most were good and as I said before the chicken wings and the Reuben were absolutely amazing. You must order them! No exceptions. I think if you’re looking for a nice relaxing lounge with great service, ambiance, food and drinks you’re sure to have a great time at Two E!
