Guangzhou is a quick 30 minute high-speed train ride from Shenzhen which is where I’m living now. For my three-day weekend getaway I stayed at the Langham Place hotel in Guangzhou. The Langham Place Guangzhou hotel is located on metro line 8, which is a newer extension of the city. In the area of the hotel there are large convention centers and other luxury hotel properties. It’s a very business oriented area.

Once you enter the hotel, you will realize that there is a large amount of space inside the lobby. There is a huge center-column of open space in the hotel that goes all the way up to the ceiling. I’ve seen this design around the world but it was still quite impressive.
It felt great to enter the room! The design is gorgeous featuring lots of wooden and gold colors throughout. The TV is recessed into the wall which makes it very sleek. The view from my room overlooked the river.
The bathroom was great in its design. I really enjoyed the large bathtub with glass view to the rest of the room. My only complaints are that the bathtub had to be filled by using the shower head because it had no faucet for itself as well as no slow-close toilet seat.
After settling into the room, I had a look around the rest of the property. For this stay I was unable to visit the club lounge or its offering which was very disappointing. However, I did have a chance to look at the gym and spa facilities. The gym is standard for what you’d expect in such a luxury hotel. It featured lots of equipment that was new and high quality. If you’re using a treadmill you can look out over the pool. I was happy to learn that the changing rooms offered both a steam room and sauna.
The next morning, I was excited to try breakfast! The main hotel breakfast is located on the fourth floor in a giant dining room. Everyday that I was there it was absolutely packed with people. Langham Place Guangzhou hotel offers mainly Chinese cuisine along with standard Western breakfast options. I would highly recommend you get an omelette as well as trying the pineapple buns! This is one of the best pineapple buns I’ve had in a while! Well done.
During my stay, I was also able to have a dinner at their Alfresco Italian restaurant, located on the fourth floor. It was nice to meet the chef and learn more about what goes into running the restaurant. Overall, the food was better than I would have expected for Italian food in inner-China.
The hotel property itself has a lot to offer. The property itself is quite excellent but the distance to the city center is less desirable. If you have business in the area it’s a perfect fit, but if you’re looking to be close to the action it might not be the best. In the end, the Langham Place hotel in Guangzhou offers a lot of quality and I would not hesitate to stay there again!
