When it comes to Shanghai, there are so many hotels to choose from and many different areas to consider. It really comes down to what type of activities you want to do and what type of hotel you prefer. On my first trip to Shanghai, I decided to stay at the Marriott City Center hotel. The hotel is a few hundred meters from People’s Square metro station. After staying a few nights I quickly learned that this is a very exciting area with lots of things to keep you busy. The area is great for local food which really got me excited!

The hotel has a grand lobby with a marble fountain in the center. Very luxurious indeed.
After checking in, I went to the elevator to see what my suite had to offer. I opened the door to a beautiful living room. The design was business-oriented but very cohesive and stylish. Moving into the bedroom, you’ll notice the headboard, it reminded me of Japan. There was also a large full bathroom to accompany this large suite as well a half bathroom near the entryway. Everything felt like home and was very comfortable. Marriott bedding is always like sleeping on clouds!
Of course my suite came with executive lounge access. The lounge at the Marriott City Center hotel is on the 37th floor. From the executive lounge, you’ll be able to observe a stunning view of Shanghai. Whether it’s day or night, I really enjoyed spending my time there looking out over this beautiful city. The lounge of course offers breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner with evening cocktails. The afternoon tea is buffet style and mainly desserts and the open bar lasts for about 4 hours! True paradise.
As I’ve mentioned, you can have breakfast in the lounge but I found that the breakfast on the third floor was much more extensive and just better overall. On the third floor, they have cuisines from all over the globe including Indian, Chinese, Japanese and of course Western. What I really enjoyed was the fact that they had all of my favorite American hot sauces which made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. All of the food that I ate there tasted great! I would recommend you to try the fried dumplings. You can thank me later. Wink.
I feel that the Marriott is a brand that really understands what people enjoy and consistent with its standards worldwide. When it came to the gym, it was completely stocked and perfect for burning off those extra calories from all of the cakes I ate in the executive lounge. Not only does the gym have plenty of cardio machines, it also has free weights and many other weight machines. There is also a long swimming pool and extensive locker room with dry sauna and steam room. Everything I could have hoped for!
I spent nearly 2 weeks at the Marriott City Center in Shanghai and it really became my home. Throughout all of my time in Shanghai, the staff was super friendly and just a pure delight to encounter. I love the hotel’s location and all that it had to offer. The food was definitely a huge plus and you must check out their Inagiku restaurant in a separate article. As a whole, Marriott tends to be a very consistent brand when it comes to quality and I would highly recommend you to stay at the Marriott City Center hotel in Shanghai, China!
