I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love high-end luxury hotels. However, there is always a large place in my heart for a beautiful design hotel. Recently, I was lucky enough to stay at a design hotel that offers high-end luxury service and amenities! This was during my first trip to China where I had the pleasure of visiting The Opposite House hotel in Beijing.

The property is located in the Sanlitun area of Beijing which is known for shopping, embassies and nightlife. It’s really hard to get an idea of what the rooms will be like when you walk into the lobby. There is a giant sheet hanging from the ceiling. There is a lot of open space with artwork all over the place. It feels more like an art gallery than a hotel.
After checking in, I headed up to the fifth floor to see my room! On the way there, I noticed the extensive use of wood in the hallways accompanied with glass and metal accents. This gave a more industrial feel than what you typically see in most hotels.
When you enter the room, the feeling is warmer. It literally feels like you’re walking into that stereotypical image of heaven. Most things you see are white and fluffy. They do use a lot of wood, but everything is very light in color. Lots of straight edges and lines which make the room feel very large. Long story short, I fell in love when I walked in. The sink and the bathtub are just amazingly beautiful. I felt like everything in the room was a piece of art!
You know what puts Pierre in the best mood ever? A complimentary mini-bar! I love you Opposite House!
They have an iPad on the desk which you can use for ordering room service. I was able to use this several times throughout my stay to order some magnificent dishes off the room service menu and I would recommend you to do the same. One of these amazing meals was their HU burger. When I order cheeseburgers in Asia, I usually don’t get my hopes up, but this burger rivaled many burgers I’ve had around the world. Cheers Opposite House.
While we are on the topic of food, lets go ahead and discuss breakfast. For the first morning, I went with the village BIG brekky. I’m a fan of Western breakfast and I wanted to see what kind of skills they had in the kitchen. When it comes to Western breakfast, the biggest way to screw it up is usually with the meat. However, at The Opposite House, they provided both amazing sausages and bacon. I had the pleasure of sitting outside surrounded by greenery.
Seriously, this place is a masterpiece, check out the pool and gym area! The pool looks like it’s on fire, literally. Don’t worry, it’s not, but it is on fire in the sense that it’s gorgeous. In the typical fashion, the gym is overlooking the pool. The gym and locker room aren’t the most impressive in size but they do offer quite a punch. There is a steam room in the locker room but no dry sauna.
Looking at this property as a whole, I was greatly impressed by the design and all that it has to offer. Every time I think I’ve seen the best design hotel, I visit another that beats the last! The Opposite House is now at the top of my list. Not only is it beautiful but it has great service to match. If you want a glorious and unique experience while in Beijing, I highly recommend you to visit The Opposite House hotel in Sanlitun.
