While recently in Bangkok, I had a truly memorable dinner at the Paii Restaurant inside of The Sathorn House. The Sathorn House is a 130-year-old mansion located in the central business district of Bangkok. This is truly a historic landmark that has been transformed into a beautiful restaurant and bar. The Sathorn House is managed by W Hotels, which is just next-door. Be sure to read about my previous W Bangkok Hotel experience here.
Over several years of being in Bangkok, I always noticed this beautiful building when passing by, but never had a chance to visit. I was so incredibly excited to finally take a look inside. The Paii Restaurant inside (Paii means paddle in Thai) has an extensive Thai cuisine menu. Most dishes come with a bit of a creative twist.
The Sathorn House has both indoor and outdoor seating areas that are beautiful. You really can’t go wrong with whichever you choose!
The evening started with a few specialty cocktails at the bar. The bartender was a true mixologist indeed! For my first cocktail I went with a Coco Old-Fashioned which came with roasted coconut smoke. I don’t know if it’s just me, but any time my drink is smoky, I tend to enjoy it. Just look at this glorious bar that’s perfectly maintained!
For the meal I decided to sample Paii Restaurant’s most recommended dishes along with some of my own choices. The first few exciting dishes that arrived were the Clams with XO sauce (which were lit on fire!), Octopus with Jim Jaew sauce, and Thai Larb Beef Tartar.
I also went for an Aged Negroni which turned out to be legendary!
The dishes kept coming and coming! Thanks to the chef for introducing so many great dishes. Some other favorites included the Pork Shoulder Panang Curry, River Prawns, and the Lemongrass Panna Cota with Sago.
This atmosphere combined with great food and service truly made for a special evening at The Sathorn House. Most dishes were quite good but a few could have been slightly improved. Overall, the experience was fantastic! Just spending time in this beautiful house was a delight. I can highly recommend a visit to The Sathorn House in Bangkok, Thailand, whether it’s for a drink or a meal!
