Over the years, I’ve realized that I like to focus more on local and unique activities in each destination that I spend time. During my latest trip to Bangkok, I had the pleasure of once again visiting the Riva Surya Hotel along the Chao Praya River and experiencing afternoon tea on a private boat, as well as experiencing a Thai dessert cooking class. Feel free to read about the Riva Surya Hotel in another article here.
First let’s discuss the Thai Luk Chup dessert class. Luk Chup are a Thai dessert that resemble real fruit and vegetables, made from mung beans. The class occurs indoor near the pool and offers some insight on how to make this beautiful and tasty treat. I found it very interesting to watch how mung bean paste can be painted, dipped into gelatin, and turn into works of art!
The second activity I tried at Riva Surya Hotel was the afternoon tea on the Chao Phraya River. I’ve never had afternoon tea on a small boat like this before! It was very delightful to move about the river and enjoy tasty treats and tea. The tea set was made up of both Western and Thai items.
The boat may have rocked here and there but the tea set didn’t budge! I got to observe the Rama 8 Bridge and later Wat Arun, a beautiful 360+ year old temple, before returning to the hotel’s pier. A truly memorable experience that I would be happy to try again soon!
Another year has passed, and I’ve had yet another great experience at the Riva Surya Hotel in Bangkok. The service throughout the experiences were both superb. I was happy to experience something new and unique, to spice up my life! Both the Thai Luk Chup Dessert Class and the Private Boat Afternoon Tea were lovely experiences that I would easily recommend people try while in Bangkok!
