My second hotel stay on my first visit to Latvia was at the Radisson Hotel Old Town Riga. As you can infer from the name, the property is located on the edge of Riga’s beautiful Old Town. From the moment I stepped in the lobby I realized that the hotel’s interior was quite modern. In contrast, the building itself was built in the 19th century. From the Radisson Hotel Old Town Riga, it’s easy to walk almost anywhere in the city. Just across the street is the beautiful Bastejkalna Park. Also, be sure to visit the Occupation Museum which is located just across the park from the hotel. I didn’t realize how interesting Latvia’s history was until I visited the museum!

After checking in, I had to wait a little while for my room to become ready as I arrived a bit early. Once the room was ready, I went up to the fifth floor to have a look. Just like the rest of the hotel, the room was contemporary in its style. There was a monochrome color palette with one colorful piece of artwork to accent the space. I tend to prefer minimal interior design so it was easy to enjoy this room’s style.
I was truly impressed by the superb bedding as it was very comfortable and allowed me to sleep effortlessly. In the room there was a capsule coffee machine, teakettle, and very small bottles of welcome water that were not replenished throughout the stay.
I’d like to thank the staff for the small bottle of wine and cookies as a welcome gift.
The bathroom featured a standalone shower stall and single sink vanity. It was fairly basic but had everything I needed.
Radisson Hotel Old Town Riga’s breakfast was located on the ground floor, just on the side of the lobby. I appreciated the fact that there were several local items to choose from including smoked fish and lots of pickled vegetables. Along with the decent buffet selection, there was an à la carte menu which included things like omelettes, pancakes, and waffles. Everything tasted quite good and the selection was decent. The two staff members at breakfast did a fantastic job at offering warm and attentive service for my entire stay!
Not far from the lobby was the fitness room. I must say that this is the smallest hotel fitness room I have ever seen. Inside there was a single exercise bike, selection of free weights, single weight bench, and some CrossFit style bars going up the wall and across the ceiling. Even though it was very small, I did manage to get a great workout in. There are no changing rooms, saunas, steam rooms, or pools.
The Radisson Hotel Old Town Riga has a fairly basic offering. The property’s high point is its location which is hard to beat. Although the rooms are comfortable, it’s not a hotel designed to spend leisure time in as the facilities are limited. Overall, it was a smooth and comfortable no-frills stay. That being said, I was happy with my stay and would be also happy to return to the Radisson Hotel Old Town Riga!
