After visiting Tufenkian Hotels in Yerevan and Lake Sevan, I made my way to Tufenkian Old Dilijan Complex. Dilijan is a famous Armenian town in the mountains, about an hour and 15 minutes north of Yerevan, making it a popular getaway for locals. Every Armenian I spoke to about Dilijan shared fond memories. Tufenkian Old Dilijan Complex envelops this small-town charm with its 19th century style buildings. The property attracts lots of visitors, throughout my stay, I saw many tour groups coming to simply explore the property. Tufenkian Old Dilijan Complex is classified as a 3 star hotel but is truly a guesthouse.

I arrived early in the afternoon at the lower entrance and walked up a small hill to get to the reception. I noticed multiple shops that sell all types of souvenirs as well as the café and restaurant. After a smooth check in, I was shown to my room.
I stayed in a fairly spacious suite styled like that of the 19th century. The suite featured a large private wrap-around veranda. Standing on the veranda it was possible to look down on nearby local houses and almost feel like a local. Almost.
The bathroom was a little bit more modern in its styling and featured a shower stall and single sink vanity. I liked that the shower had a very strong massage shower head.
The restaurant is located in a structure that looks like an old house and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant has a similar menu to the other Tufenkian Restaurants I visited around the country, and features lots of traditional Armenian cuisine. This is where I ate my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff were clearly more accustomed to working with foreigners as I noticed there was a lot more smiling than other parts of Armenia! Great.
Breakfast was in both a buffet and à la carte format. It’s possible to order hot items such as eggs and pancakes along with the cold options on the buffet. In addition to the buffet there are several varieties of coffee available to get your caffeine fix!
Tufenkian Old Dilijan Complex is perfectly situated just a short five minute walk from the center of the village. There’s lots to explore around the area and to think that this property offers a great starting point for Dilijan adventures. The major feature of the property itself is the charming design. Remember that it is a guesthouse. All in all, I enjoyed my time at the quaint Tufenkian Old Dilijan Complex!
