Courtyard by Marriott Hotel Review (Seoul, Korea)

Last updated on April 23rd, 2025

I recently stayed at the newest hotel I’ve ever stayed at! It opened just 2 months ago. It was also new in the fact that it was my first Courtyard by Marriott experience. This of course was on my trip to Seoul, South Korea. The hotel location is right next to an old market which is called Namdaemun and a major tourist attraction. It’s also overlooking the Sungnyemun gate. Overall, it’s just very centrally located but you will have to walk a few hundred meters to the nearest subway station.

There really was no difference between this Courtyard Marriott and any other Marriott. I felt that the quality was on the same level. The room was gorgeous. So fresh and new. As with the trend these days, the shower was in a glass box so everyone can see. You do however have the option to close the curtain, if you must. The view from the window was of course looking over the beautiful Namsan tower.

I was waiting for a big difference between this tier of Marriott and the next but it was hard to find. The lounge was actually bigger than some of the normal Marriott’s lounges I’ve visited. To top it off, the food was incredible! It had such a wide variety I couldn’t stop myself from stuffing my face. This wasn’t just finger food, this was lasagna, salads and traditional Korean barbecue. Nobody would have trouble having a fantastic meal. Of course they also have a wide variety of alcohol. Wink.

I stayed at the hotel for two nights so I tried both of their breakfasts. The lounge has such a great variety and I really didn’t need to leave. However, I did try the main dining room which offers a very sizable selection. There were many guests in the main dining room, if you’re into that sort of thing. Wink. The food was great but Pierre recommends taking your breakfast in the lounge.

Not sure if other Courtyard by Marriott hotels have pools, but this one does not. For Pierre, it’s not a big deal because I don’t often swim. They do offer a very amazing gym. When a hotel is this fresh, it makes me all giddy inside. All this amazing equipment, just for Pierre!

The hotel is designed in such a way that it has an open shaft running up the center. This does offer a very grand lobby and lounge area on the lower floor.

When it was time to check out, I was genuinely sad. The Courtyard by Marriott in Seoul exceeded all of my expectations. It was straightforward, and even though it was only two months old, they were already poised to be an amazing hotel for years to come. The amenities are good, service great and the food was simply amazing. You will not be disappointed if you visit the Courtyard by Marriott in Seoul, South Korea!
