China is huge and there are so many different foods to try! I knew I needed help, to make sure I didn’t miss any of the most important and popular Chinese dishes on my recent trip to Shanghai. Luckily, after extensive research, I found Eating Adventure Tours. The tour started in a very central location that is crawling with great food. Walking through streets and streets of food, I would have never knew which was super tasty and which wasn’t. In total we were able to try 10 different foods!
The tour starts out with a snack. This was of course a crab pastry. This is a Shanghai specialty and its filled with crab, shrimp, green onions, mashed beans and sugar. It’s quite heartwarming and made me feel fuzzy inside.
The next item that really got my attention was the Chinese yellow wine. This is a traditional aged wine from fermented rice and is a little bit higher in alcohol content. This is just what I needed to get excited to continue the tour!
One of my favorite things of the whole day was the Longevity noodles. These are served with a pork in a meat based broth. These have the perfect balance of flavors I love and were just fantastic!
The tour whines you through local areas and is quite eye-opening. It’s nice to see how Shanghainese live and eat. We had to try two different types of dumplings. The first dumpling was the famous Xiao Long Bao. These are steamed and probably the most famous Shanghai Street food. A flavor explosion!
The second dumplings, the Sheng Jian Bao, cannot be confused with the first which are similar but pan-fried. This creates a mouth-watering crispy crust. My new favorite!
To finish off the evening we went with a mango custard dessert. Just like most Chinese desserts, this wasn’t too rich and just what I needed.
Overall, I had a fantastic time on the Eating Adventure Tour. This is just what I was looking for to make sure I could sample all of the amazing food Shanghai has to offer. Tackling local Shanghai food on your own can be a daunting task so I would highly recommend you to go on a tour with the Eating Adventure Tours!
