While visiting the incredible city of Porto, Portugal, I had the chance to have a meal at a wonderful local restaurant and brewery known as Brasão. They have a few locations throughout the city and are famous for their authentic Portuguese food, specifically food from Porto, such as the Francesinha (a sandwich with a ton of meat and cheese, smothered in a slightly spicy sauce.) I had planned to order one but when I arrived, the staff guided me in a slightly different direction and I put my trust in them. It was the right choice!
The dining room of Cervejaria Brasão Aliados was a bit dark and set a cozy and comfortable mood. For the evening, we were taken care of by the wonderful Orlando! He was very charismatic and offered attentive service and suggestions throughout the evening.
First I tried the fried onion with black garlic mayo. If you’re familiar with Outback Steakhouse, it’s similar to the Blooming Onion but with slightly different seasoning. It was damn good, bursting with flavor and had a delightfully crispy texture. This paired with my Belgian Triple beer perfectly!
Next I tried the meat, mushroom, and truffle Rissol. This was very flavorful and tasty as well. The black color was very unique and a bit shocking at first! Lovely. This reminded me of minced meat cutlets I had recently enjoyed in Japan!
For the main course, I tried the steak with cheese sauce and the 1/2 grilled mixed meats. We feasted and feasted and still could not finish everything. The 1/2 grilled mixed meats turned out to basically be the Francesinha, without bread. The amount of meat you get is just incredible! Both dishes absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. These came with a small salad, fries, and chips that were mind-blowing. This was paired with Quinta Seara d’Ordens Talentus Grande Escolha, Douro, Portugal.
For dessert we tried the cheese pudding and the banana and caramel cheesecake. I must say that the cheese pudding was the winner!
Overall, the evening at Cervejaria Brasão Aliados went incredibly well. From the moment we entered, everyone was extremely nice and the atmosphere was cozy and delightful. The warmth carried over to the food which we could tell was made with love and care. I was happy that I put trust in Orlando to choose the right dishes that made for an epic meal on my last night in Porto with my father. If you’re looking for a truly heartwarming local meal in Porto, you must check out Cervejaria Brasão!
