Three and a half years ago I made my first trip to the Panorama Restaurant, atop the Sheraton Lisbon Hotel. It was a serious night to remember, full of fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. With such good memories I couldn’t wait to return to experience it again! This year my father and I were touring the country and for our last night in the city I booked a dinner at Panorama, for a proper send-off. The restaurant overlooks the entire city of Lisbon. For the evening we went for the chef’s tasting menu, and I went for the wine pairing. It was a six course menu with a few extras!
First and foremost, the dining room was very tastefully decorated. It’s really hard to go wrong with such a good view as well. The staff were also notable and offered a great level of service throughout the evening.
To get things started were a few amuse bouches, including a seafood soup and plate of smaller items including bites of fish. Tasty! The meal was off to a great start as we enjoyed everything!
Next up was a scallop salad with the most perfectly prepared scallops. The salad had some citrus as well which really made it pop. To go with these first few dishes I had a glass of Alvarinho monção e melgaço which is a Vinho Verde (green wine) from Portugal, which paired well.
A very exciting course was the massive grilled tiger prawns. These were accompanied with a salad and both were definitely a flavor explosion with their accompanied sauce. The prawns were more tender and tasty than many lobsters I’ve had previously.
Following was the Portuguese style codfish. This had one of the most beautiful appearances of the entire evening! The cod was prepared in a very traditional way which ensured that it was a chewy textured meat with crispy skin. This texture was fairly unfamiliar to me, I normally ate tender and flaky cod. That being said, the flavor was just immense and I was assured that this was how the locals ate it. I did end up enjoying it but it took me off guard, at first.
Next up was a beef dish with new potatoes and crispy pork. This was again yet another beautiful dish! The meat was cooked absolutely perfectly and super tender as a result. Atop the beef sat pickled vegetables and olives. To be clear, I love pickles! This was something I would make at home. To accompany this was a glass of 2016 Julio Bastos Dona Maria Viognier, Vinho Regional Alentejano, Portugal.
It was now time for dessert, but not before clearing our palates with lime sorbet. This was welcomed and very tasty!
For dessert, there was a small chocolate cake and ice cream on the side presented in a gorgeous fashion with a flower on top. I loved the texture of everything and it was nice to bounce back and forth between the lighter ice cream and the richer cake. They poured chocolate sauce over the top for perfection. This was accompanied with a Real Companhia Velha Royal Oporto 10 Year Old Tawny Port, Portugal.
To wrap up the meal were some small chocolate truffles and cookies.
The meal at Panorama Restaurant was unfortunately finished. The Sheraton Lisboa really knows how to hire great staff! Chef Emmanuel Serrano from Argentina truly knows what he’s doing. The servers were incredibly lovely and offered a great experience with lots of character. Their hearts truly went into the food and experience. It was a flawless evening! I was so happy that the restaurant was consistent and actually better than I remember it! Panorama Restaurant is a must visit in Lisbon!
