Shangri-La Hotel Review: Valley Wing (Singapore)

Last updated on April 23rd, 2025

Near Orchard MRT station, next to all of the very high-end apartment buildings, is a very famous hotel. The hotel I’m talking about is a flagship hotel. Any guess of which hotel brand originates in Singapore? Well, I’m sure you’ve guessed Shangri-La because all of my readers are so smart! This is a behemoth of a hotel with 747 guestrooms divided into three wings that were built over several years opening originally in 1971.

I was able to reserve a very large room on the Valley Wing. Once I figured out where to go, I entered the lobby to check in. This was one of the most immaculate hotel lobbies that I have ever seen.

Before we dive into the room, let’s chat about the lobby. The Valley Wing guests are able to enjoy a few special benefits. These include a special breakfast, afternoon tea, cocktails and evening canapes. These are some of the best afternoon tea and cocktail hours I’ve ever experienced. The selection of food and drinks during this time is quite impressive.

Now that we’ve gotten that out-of-the-way, let’s talk about the giant room that I secured. I hopped in the elevator to checkout the room and found two security guards staffed next to my door. Unfortunately, they were not there to protect me but for another guest.

Anyways, upon entering the room, there was a box of chocolate waiting for me and a complementary minibar. Only nonalcoholic drinks. The Valley Wing was completed in 1978. I believe that this translates into the styling which is a bit more classic. The setup is quite interesting from other room layouts that I’ve seen. There’s a partitioned off closet space prior to entering the bathroom.

In the center of the property there is an absolutely huge outdoor pool. The gym is large as well and boasts a very extensive amount of equipment. There were tons of guests getting fit just like Pierre. Inside the locker room, they had large relaxation pools. I really liked the locker room because they have all of the necessary self-care products to get ready and look super fresh. Well done Shangri-La!

The next morning, I took my breakfast in the Valley Wing’s beautiful dining room. It felt very exclusive because there were only about three or four tables occupied in a glorious room. The service was some of the best I have received. So good, I was a little shocked.

This was a very short stay, before I knew it, I was in my taxi and on my way to the airport. The high points of this stay would have to be the magnificent benefits of the Valley Wing. This was a notch above many hotels. It’s a very exclusive experience and definitely worth it if you’re trying to truly enjoy the boss life. The staff was very accommodating and went out of their way to help me. For example, when I asked where the gym was, the gentleman didn’t just tell me the directions, but walked me all the way there. Nice! If you’re looking for the high life, great food and a very exclusive experience, I would recommend you to stay at the Shangri-La hotel in Singapore!
