While staying at the wonderful JW Marriott Essex House Hotel overlooking Central Park I decided to give their Southgate restaurant a try for dinner. First I want to say that this hotel has an amazing location. It’s on the south end of Central Park and I must say that I truly enjoyed my time there. Southgate is on the ground floor with a great view. When you go, because I know you will, make sure you get a window seat because it’s quite wonderful!
Pierre always likes to start his dining experience with a cocktail to prepare his stomach for the work that’s ahead. I started with an old fashioned that really hit the spot!
Our server was amazing and very attentive to all of our needs. After our cocktails, we went with a charcuterie plate and an order of ceviche. How can you go wrong with cheese and meat!
What really was exciting was when it came to the entrees. The more memorable entrée was the steak with lobster. Surf and turf if you will. Yes, I will. Perfectly cooked steak accompanied by a giant lobster tail that can’t be beat!
The meal was winding down and it was time for sweet goodness. For dessert we went with cheesecake and of course some ice cream and espresso. Once we took care of our sweet teeth we went for one final digestif to finish off the evening. How can you go wrong with that combination? Perfect ending to the evening!
Nestled right next to Central Park, Southgate offers a fantastic offering all around. The JW Marriott Essex House Hotel is of course wonderful and I’m really happy to say that their restaurant is a great addition to the hotel. Together they pack a powerful punch! Whether you’re visiting New York or live in New York, Southgate is a fantastic place to grab a bite and a drink!
