The Westin Excelsior Hotel Review (Rome, Italy)

Last updated on February 12th, 2025

I stuck with the SPG brand as I moved from the Sheraton Roma hotel to the The Westin Excelsior. It’s quite a classic property built in 1906. Just a five-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, the location of the Westin makes it a perfect place to begin your exploration of this magnificent city!

Upon entering, you’ll immediately notice the luxurious lobby. In the evenings, they normally have live music which adds to the very nice ambiance. Lots of chandeliers and a warm and welcoming staff make this a great place to spend a time.

After checking in, I went up to the sixth floor to view my deluxe room. First and foremost, I noticed the beautiful green color scheme throughout. I absolutely loved the patterns on the walls. This style makes me feel very comfortable and a place I would truly love to come back to you sooner than later. The room was very spacious and had a large bathroom as well as a large walk in closet.

The bathroom had a large marble counter-top with two separate sinks, a shower and bathtub as well as a heated towel rack.

I’d like to thank the staff of the Westin for delivering a bottle of prosecco during my stay as well as a tray of very tasty sweets. I especially enjoyed the cannoli!

Once I was settled in, it was time to explore the rest of the The Westin Excelsior! A feature I liked was the elegant staircase that had beautiful carpeting, making you feel like royalty. Working my way down to the basement level, I took note of the facilities including indoor pool, steam room, fitness center and sauna. I really enjoyed cranking up the heat in both the steam room and sauna! All facilities were great.

The gym was quite extensive with lots of cardio machines, weight machines and free weights. The facilities were not very busy which made for a peaceful workout.

During my stay, I had the opportunity to have a dinner at their Doney restaurant, on the ground floor. The Doney restaurant is also where the breakfast takes place. You can read about the dinner in a separate article. The breakfast was splendid, I couldn’t help but notice the fantastic pastry selection and the foreign foods. The cappuccino was like heaven!

When my stay came to an end, I was a bit disappointed that I had to leave. I’m sure the staff would like to know that it would be my pleasure to continue living in this hotel, indefinitely. Wink. All in all, it was a fantastic stay, especially considering the great facilities, service, design and of course the food. In conclusion, I can highly recommend you to stay at the The Westin Excelsior Rome hotel!
