Westhouse Hotel Review (New York, New York)

While in New York I had a chance to experience some wonderful hotels. The first experience wasn’t the best but then I went to the Westhouse and everything changed. It was like I stepped into a magical land of happiness!

All of the staff are super friendly and this is definitely appreciated. The reception was amazingly polite. This put a huge smile on my face. The Westhouse hotel is located on the corner of 55th street and 7th avenue which is very central. Only a few blocks from Central Park makes it a great starting point to explore the city.

After checking in I went up to the 22nd floor to see the room. First thing I noticed on my way there was how nice the hallways were decorated. This beautiful decoration is carried on inside the rooms.

The styling of this place is seriously amazing. Everything is gorgeous! The windows let in a lot of light which is great. I really like the bed, especially the headboard. It’s very warm and cozy. There is a lot of personality in this hotel and you can feel it through the ambiance and service.

The bathroom is just as wonderfully designed. Very bright with marble covering a majority of it. I like that they put a giant mirror right in the shower. For the men out there here is a pro tip. Use the mirror for shaving towards the end of your shower to get the closest shave of your life. You’re welcome in advance. Wink.

One of the major benefits of the hotel is the afternoon tea/coffee and happy hour that they offer in their lobby. This is the type of thing that gets people excited, especially Pierre. During the early afternoon they have tea and snacks. Then in the evening they have an open bar along with more food! Jackpot!

In the later evening they offer an open bar along with a pretty substantial amount of food. It was really a lot more than I expected! Well played Westhouse, well played.

The facilities are also something that you need to take note of. The gym has very solid equipment and I had it all to myself. It’s medium-sized and has everything you could possibly need to stay in shape during your travels. The one thing that would really complete the package would be locker rooms along with a steam room and sauna.

After an exciting evening of open bar and snacks it was time to get rested. I was so excited to wake up and eat breakfast that I could barely sleep! I had toured the premise on the day of arrival and the dining room was beautiful. Finally, after my handsome sleep, I woke up and it was time for the big show. I had so many questions! What would they offer for breakfast? Would there be good coffee?

Yes! I was not disappointed! A fantastic coffee machine is available for your convenience. They offered a continental breakfast along with a few extras which had everything I needed to feel satisfied. It was a pleasant surprise that hit the spot. All of the food was quality and Pierre was happy.

I must say that I really enjoyed my experience at the Westhouse hotel in New York. Nearly everything was perfect. A notch above in many areas. The extras like afternoon tea and evening happy hour are something to really enjoy. The staff is out of this world pleasant. I can guarantee that unless you’re an evil person you will enjoy your time at the Westhouse! GO GO GO!

New York City’s Most Expensive Brunch

Everybody loves brunch. If you don’t like brunch then I don’t like you. Now that we’ve got that out of the way we can talk about the exquisite brunch at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. During my two week trip to New York I was invited to this amazing experience. I’m so kind and so generous that I brought a guest along to enjoy the plethora of food and drinks with me. It happened to be none other than infamous food blogger Dara aka The Skinny Pig aka Big Bacon Bonanza.

This was my first time to really explore New York City believe it or not. The Waldorf Astoria Hotel is an icon in the city. Just walking in the front door and up the steps put me in a state of awe. How magnificent of a design! We made our way into the Peacock Alley restaurant where the brunch takes place. I’m going to stop and just make a note that this is the most impressive brunch setup I have ever seen in my life.

It’s really a shocker that I’m not 5,000 pounds right now. There are so many different foods to choose from! Certainly, something for everyone. My research tells me that this brunch is also along with being magnificent the most expensive brunch in the entire city at approximately $125 per adult. Sometimes you just need to treat yourself.

After exploring the lay of the land it was time to get down and dirty. I quickly got to work loading up my plates (yes, multiple plates) with food from all reaches of the universe. You want seafood? You got it. You want beef Wellington? It’s right over here. You want a chocolate fountain? Please, help yourself. When I say they have it all, they really do.

This place is no joke! The food looks good and the important thing is that it tastes good as well. Along with our brunch we were able to order some cocktails to help to truly enjoy the experience. Some of these were better than others but overall quite enjoyable. They were kind enough to offer us some gin that was aged in bourbon barrels and 115 proof. Pierre is quite a manly man but this did get him tipsy quite quickly.

New York City's Most Expensive Brunch Blog Cafes Food New York North America United States

A fun fact of the day is that your favorite breakfast food was invented here! The official story goes that Lemuel Benedict wandered into the hotel in 1894 and ordered “poached eggs, crisp bacon, buttered toast and a hooker of hollandaise” to cure his hangover. The Maître d’hôtel was so impressed with the creation he added it to the menu after changing out bacon for ham and toast for an English muffin. History was in my mouth and I loved it.

Pfister Hotel Review (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)

To be honest I had nearly no expectations when it came to visiting Milwaukee. I think in life this is the best way to be so you’re never disappointed. Last weekend I took a trip to visit my old friend Georgia that I haven’t seen in nearly 6 years. We arrived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Friday in the afternoon and checked into the Pfister hotel. Upon arrival we gave the car to the valet which made things super smooth.

I had done a little research before visiting the hotel to find out that it had a lot of history and is over 100 years old. The Pfister is an icon in the city. I’ve been traveling a lot especially in Europe and I’m well acquainted with classic designs but I did not expect to find it in America. The lobby reminded me of the hotels I visited in Vienna. Beautifully painted ceilings that were very high. Impressive! Pierre likes.

The view from the 17th floor where we secured a room is very pretty. We could see beautiful Lake Michigan in the distance and the sunrise was phenomenal. Pierre actually spent most of his life living on the other side of this huge lake. I’ll let you geography buffs figure that one out.

The room was absolutely fantastic! The attention to detail was superb. They welcomed us with fruit, wine, cheese along with honey which was a nice touch. Nothing says indulgence like cheese and alcohol. It seems like every inch of the Pfister is magnificently designed. Other hotels should take notes. We only had a few hours to explore the hotel and then it was time to meet Georgia for dinner and drinks.

The next morning we woke up and prepared for a breakfast in their cafe. The cafe had this quaint little charm to it. Pierre is not a huge person but he orders a huge amount of food. On special for the day was corned beef hash eggs Benedict. How could I resist? I paired it up with a cappuccino, fruit, a Belgian waffle and of course an omelette. Happy tummy.

In the basement of the hotel they offer a very extensive gym. I couldn’t find a locker room. The pool is on the top floor which is the 23rd. Our room was on the 17th so even though the direction was the same the view from the 23rd floor was much superior. They also have a nice lounge on this floor called Blu. The atmosphere is fantastic!

In conclusion the Pfister hotel was an absolute delight along with Milwaukee as a whole. Every encounter I had with the staff was flawless, warm and welcoming. The design was eloquent and grand. The food was on point. Overall, the Pfister hotel was just a magnificent experience and if you’re ever in Milwaukee a solid choice for accommodation!

Burj El Hamam Restaurant Review (Beirut, Lebanon)

17 Jan 2016

I’ll start by saying that I mainly came to Beirut simply because I’m a huge fan of Lebanese food. The last hotel I stayed at was the Movenpick Hotel and Resort and they have the Burj El Hamam restaurant on the top floor. I actually didn’t expect to eat there but I was offered a meal and of course Pierre will not decline and amazing Lebanese lunch. I was starting to get a little sad that I was leaving Lebanon. Tear.

Luckily this meal took me away from my sadness and brought complete and utter happiness to my existence. It was simply plate after plate after plate of amazing tastes. There is a huge dining room. It is a very popular restaurant among locals and if you’re looking for that classic Lebanese fix this is the place to go. It’s a bit of an upper scale feel which goes right along with my lifestyle. Wink.

We were just eating the mezza which is actually just the cold dishes that are basically Lebanese appetizers. However, there were so many dishes that I was curious if we were going to actually have bigger entrées. So after I filled up quite a bit on the mezza I asked if there was going to be more food and the answer to my astonishment was yes. Loosen your belts folks.

This entire meal was fit for a king. Luckily I was there. Just the abundance of food and flavors was immense. I truly loved everything I ate and it was a huge bonus to have this meal as one of my last in Beirut. All of the service was on point, friendly and informative.

After all the main dishes it was on to dessert. Plenty to choose from. I fell in love a few times during this meal.

If you like Lebanese food which I would hope that you do then I’m sure you’ll enjoy your time at the restaurant. Overall, everything was perfect so I will have to give Burj El Hamam a very strong recommendation. Do yourself a favor and go feast on this amazing food!

PureGray Spa Review (Beirut, Labanon)

12 Jan 2016

What a pure experience I had at Le Grey hotel in Beirut. I continued the pure experience right down to their PureGray spa. Located in the basement, the spa is quite extensive which also includes a fantastic gym. You’ll know if you read my review of the hotel.

The hotel is located very centrally in Beirut. Surrounding it is the high-end shopping district which is a great place to walk around and get some shopping done. Of course you’re going to be sore from all of that shopping so what better way to relax than a soothing massage?

PureGray Spa Review (Beirut, Labanon) Asia Blog Lebanon Spas

You know Pierre’s life is super stressful so he had to get a massage. The entryway to the spa is very bright, warm and welcoming. After I was greeted by the staff we walked down a long dark wooden hallway to the treatment room. I thought the design of this hallway was very unique. Much appreciated.

Once situated inside the room I was all set to enjoy my massage. The room had soothing blue lighting which was a nice touch. Forgive me for not offering great photos but since it was dark you’ll have to use that wonderful imagination of yours. Wink. Just imagine a very soothing atmosphere. I enjoyed a massage by a wonderful masseuse who hit the spot!

After my massage I had some work to get done so I didn’t have a chance to use their dry sauna. The spa does not have a steam room. However, the treatment was wonderful so I’ll let it slide this time.

Caffe Mondo Review (Beirut, Lebanon)

10 Jan 2016

Who doesn’t love melted cheese?!?

Sadly it was my final day at the Phoenicia hotel in Beirut. However, there was a fantastic lunch in store for Pierre at their Italian restaurant called Caffe Mondo.

The Phoenicia hotel has so much to offer it’s insane. Luckily there was a chance to visit three of their restaurants. Statistically you would just assume that at least one of them wouldn’t be fantastic but it was quite the contrary. All of them were fabulous. You’ll be happy to know that I have written reviews for all of them along with the spa and the hotel stay.

Anyways, like I said it was my last day at the Phoenicia hotel so I was sad to leave. Going down to their Italian cafe was a way to boost my mood and help let go of the sadness of leaving.

The cafe overlooks the sea which is a gorgeous. Upon our arrival I was brought quite an assortment of snacks. A great start!

After ordering a Lebanese beer and having some mozzarella for an appetizer it was time to move on to the main course which was… drum roll. Lasagna! Now this is what I’m talking about when I think of decadent Italian food. I could feel the passion that went into this cheesy masterpiece! It made me feel warm and fuzzy inside and that is the type of food that I like. Melted cheese going straight to my hips.

Pro Tip: If you partake in professional eating like Pierre you better make sure you hit the gym afterwards. Otherwise I can guarantee you’ll blow up into a whale-sized human.

Caffe Mondo Review (Beirut, Lebanon) Asia Blog Cafes Food Lebanon

Even though I was super full I had to order a dessert. Pierre approved. The combination of the chocolate cake and ice cream is always a classic.

In conclusion, if you have a hankering for some great Italian food while you’re in Beirut you should definitely try Caffé Mondo! Make Pierre proud!

Le Ciel Restaurant Review (Beirut, Lebanon)

08 Jan 2016

I mentioned the amazing view I had while staying at the Hilton Habtoor in Beirut. Do you recall? Of course you do because you read all of my articles. Anyways, Le Ciel restaurant has an even more amazing view than I had in my room.

The lunch was setup buffet style and offered a few dishes that were prepared on the spot including some tasty pasta. Overall, the food was great. Le Ciel offers a fairly extensive wine list so we chose a nice bottle of Lebanese wine that paired quite well with the international food.

After doing some damage to the buffet, things started to wind down. It was now dessert and coffee time! Being in Lebanon for the first time I was very interested in trying all of the local food and lucky for me I had a huge selection of Lebanese desserts to choose from along with some international choices.

At the end of the day I have to say that lunch at Le Ciel was my favorite meal at the Hilton Habtoor in Beirut. A majority of the food at the buffet was quite good. It is known for it’s international food so you should focus on these options and of course the local options. The service was fantastic and the styling plus the view really makes it a great place to enjoy. Spa Phoenicia Review (Beirut, Lebanon)

05 Jan 2016

As you very well know my first stop in Beirut was at the Phoenicia hotel. What an absolute treat the hotel is! You know what I’m going to say, if you haven’t checked out that review, you better. Quality in the hotel was top-notch so I had very high expectations for my massage in their Spa Phoenicia.

Spa Phoenicia Review (Beirut, Lebanon) Asia Blog Lebanon Spas

Spa Phoenicia Review (Beirut, Lebanon) Asia Blog Lebanon Spas

I had already been to the spa because I had used the gym and I must say that the whole area is quite beautiful in itself. All of the fitness equipment overlooks a large pool and lounge area. The spa treatments occur upstairs above an indoor pool.

Upon my arrival I was greeted super warmly by their wonderful staff and shown to the locker room to change. Throughout my entire time in the locker room there was a staff member there to assist me with anything I needed. At first I was a little thrown off but actually it made everything very comfortable. Once I was changed into my robe I headed outside to meet my masseuse.

When I first saw her I knew that she was from southeast Asia and because I’ve lived in Thailand and speak Thai I was hoping that she was Thai but turns out she was from Indonesia. Regardless, her personality was very warm and playful which was great. She wore a constant smile on her face 🙂

Spa Phoenicia Review (Beirut, Lebanon) Asia Blog Lebanon Spas

The treatment rooms were very clean and relaxing. Mine was fairly basic for the massage but they also have a variety of different styled rooms to get your relaxation on like the one above.

Pierre is very particular about his massages. He has tight shoulders so he doesn’t like it super rough. He’s delicate like a flower. When it comes down to it, the masseuse hit the spot. She had worked there for many years and clearly was a true professional. I was able to instruct her what I liked and what I didn’t like but there was very little of what I didn’t like because it was all so relaxing.

After my thorough rubdown it was sadly time to wrap up the massage. She brought me back down to the locker room area where I was able to order an espresso to jump me back to reality. Inside the locker room the attendant showed me to the steam room which is exactly what I like to enjoy after a nice massage.

Spa Phoenicia Review (Beirut, Lebanon) Asia Blog Lebanon Spas

What I have to say is that I enjoyed all parts of this experience! Having the attendant in the locker room makes you feel really special and this I truly appreciated. The treatment was great, the rooms were well-designed and the service was top-notch. The Phoenicia hotel is one of my favorite hotels that I’ve visited thus far. If you’re staying there or if you’re in Beirut you must check out their spa as soon as possible!

Indigo Restaurant Review (Beirut, Lebanon)

03 Jan 2016

There’s a lot to be said about Le gray hotel in Beirut, Lebanon. This was my last evening at the hotel and I had heard many good things about Indigo which is located on the hotel’s rooftop. Of course I had to try it out to see if it was all that it was cracked up to be!

Indigo Restaurant Review (Beirut, Lebanon) Asia Blog Food Lebanon

As I said, it’s on the rooftop and it’s in the same place where they serve breakfast. In the daytime it’s very nice but obviously during the nighttime the whole atmosphere changes, in a good way of course. Wink. It becomes more romantic and magical! I had a reservation and the staff was waiting for me when I arrived!

What is the perfect meal? I have defined the perfect meal as a meal where every bite of food and every sip of drink is amazing. Of course the atmosphere and service have to be good as well but are far less important than the food in Pierre’s book. So many times I visit restaurants where some items are good but some just don’t hit the mark. However, once in a great while there will be a meal where everything falls perfectly into place and this happened for my dinner at Indigo.

Indigo Restaurant Review (Beirut, Lebanon) Asia Blog Food Lebanon

Whoops I spilled the beans! Along with having such a magical atmosphere every single bite I consumed was fantastic. We started off with some appetizers and wine as per usual. The wine alone was so magnificent and unlike anything I have tried in the past! It was Chateau Kefraya Le Comte De M 2008 which is an amazing Lebanese wine. What a way to start a meal!

The appetizer that I ordered first was the calamari. It was sour and refreshing which I really loved and it had such a magnificent flavor it will stick in my memory for some time.

A few nights before the dinner at Indigo I had dinner at another fine dining restaurant in Beirut. The restaurant will not be named. At that meal I also ordered another magnificent steak so I wanted to compare the two. Considering that along with the server’s recommendation I ordered their Wagyu which has a marble score of 7. This is one of those steaks where it doesn’t need anything. You can take those green things that they call vegetables and just throw them away because you only need this piece of meat. Magnificent.

We didn’t go too crazy when ordering. As you know this was the end of my tour so I was sort of running out of steam on the big meals. I wanted to focus on quality over quantity. In this way I chose some of their best items on the menu but not too many because I didn’t want to explode!

The desserts to finish off the meal along with the digestive were fabulous. You already know that everything I tried was amazing so no surprise here. These desserts are on another level. How do they make them taste so good?

The entire meal could be summed up with being perfect. There really isn’t anything else to say. The service, atmosphere, the company and of course all of the food and drinks were on point. This meal will go down in infamy in Pierre’s book. Make sure you do yourself a favor and enjoy a meal at Indigo restaurant at Le Gray hotel in Beirut, Lebanon!

There's a lot to be said about Le gray hotel in Beirut, Lebanon. This was my last evening at the hotel and I had heard many good things about Indigo which is located on the hotel's rooftop. Of course I had to try it out to see if it was all…

Yotel Hotel Review (New York, New York)

Having new experiences is what makes life interesting. From the moment I arrived at the Yotel in New York City I knew that this was going to be something new and fresh. When you walk into the Yotel which is in Times Square, the first thing you’ll notice is that there is no reception counter! At first I was a bit baffled but there was a man who pointed me in the direction of a check in machine. Similar to a ticket kiosk at the airport, you’ll go through their automated check in process exclusively with the machine. Once it spits out your keys you’re free to go to your room. I’m in the future!

The fourth floor is where they have the traditional styled lobby. On this floor there is also a waiting area, restaurant, gym, a cafe of sorts and other facilities. After snooping around I hustled up to my room to see what I was working with!

If you didn’t know, Pierre is a minimalist. Therefore, the style of the room agreed with my personal preferences. How fitting. It was clean, stylish and straight to the point just like me! The room offered a truly remarkable view. Two of the four walls were floor to ceiling windows. This offered a spectacular vantage point of the city and was great during sunrise and sunset. On a side-note, I forgot to close the blinds a few times when I was changing so the neighboring buildings got quite a show. You’re welcome.

The room had some creative features which I appreciated like USB ports in the side of the bed and a purple light that went around the TV. This gave me a spaceship feel. After figuring out what was what in the room it was time to get my exploring of New York City on! I spent the day out eating and drinking with my friends and eventually retired back to the hotel for some well-deserved handsome sleep. What a comfortable bed!

The next morning I was very curious to see the breakfast. On the fourth floor they offer tea, coffee and muffins. When I first read about the muffin breakfast I was quite skeptical. However, after muffin consumption I found that it was quite a tasty breakfast! Sugar and caffeine buzz initiated! A great feature which Pierre truly enjoyed was the 24 hour tea and coffee. This was great because I like to work from my room during the day so I had an unlimited source of energy!

While at the hotel I was very busy so I didn’t have a chance to use the gym but it definitely had what you need to stay fit. During my stay I didn’t meet too many staff at the hotel, but the people I did engage with were very pleasant. Upon checkout I was wished happy travels and left with a smile on my Pierre. Hotels take note! I can’t stress how important this is! Nobody wants to leave a hotel feeling anything less than spectacular.

Pierre’s stay only lasted a couple nights but everything was fantastic! As you know, I generally stick to a certain style of hotel but this clean and stylish design really was truly refreshing and a nice change from the normal! The location is wonderful and you can explore New York City quite easily. I really appreciated the 24 hour coffee and tea. It’s the little things that count. If you’re looking for a hotel that gets straight to the point and gets the job done in a stylish way then you must visit the Yotel in New York!
