Something I often enjoy while I travel is afternoon tea. On my recent trip to Shanghai, China, I visited the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Pudong and tried their afternoon tea. The location of the hotel isn’t the most convenient for public transport so I would recommend you to take a taxi.
They offer both a traditional afternoon tea set as well as a regularly updated alternative version. We decided to go with the classic and more traditional variety. Of course, while living the high-life, we had to have a glass of champagne to accompany our tea.
After enjoying the lobby for a few moments, our tea arrived. I went with a black tea because I needed a little caffeine boost. The tea was good, nothing that blew me away but it was nice. Not long after and the food began to arrive. The first thing that I noticed was the beauty in the presentation. All of the items looked like tons of effort went into their creation.
I starting with the more salty and savory items and worked my way to the sweets. I really enjoyed the salmon sandwiches! I also loved that they kept refilling the olives. Pierre loves olives.
A few hours later and we were very full! With beautiful presentation and great service, everything was wonderful. It was a very classy afternoon. I would insist that you order the traditional set menu. Overall, it was lovely and you should be sure to check out the afternoon tea at the Mandarin Oriental hotel the next time you’re in Shanghai.
