During my recent stay at the Lord Byron hotel in Rome, I had a chance to have dinner at their Sapori del Lord Byron restaurant. The dinner took place in their lovely dining room which incorporates luxury accents with a comfortable atmosphere.
To get the meal started, I had to order negroni which was a very common theme during my stay in Italy. Shortly after there was a tray of amuse bouches to start the evening. They were quite tasty and I especially loved the olives!
For the hors d’oeuvres, I ordered scallops with artichokes and “bagna cauda” sauce. This was one of the most beautifully seared scallops that I’ve ever laid my eyes. Just look at that crispy top. The artichoke was very pleasant and I loved the sauce. Definitely recommended!
Up next for the first course was the Calamarata pasta with prawns, broccoli, fresh ricotta cheese and marjoram. This was a very filling dish to say the least. The pasta was perfectly cooked. The presentation could have been improved, but the taste was great.
For the main course I went with a grilled fillet of beef with wild mushroom cream and Swiss chard. A gorgeous looking dish, and like the scallop, the steak really stood out visually. It surely will cause one to drool.
To finish off the evening, I ordered a tiramisu with lemoncello. This was the best tiramisu that I’ve had while in Italy. What a great way to finish the evening!
Overall, I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the Sapori del Lord Byron restaurant at the Lord Byron hotel in Rome. Just like the rest of the hotel, the restaurant felt quite comfortable and luxurious as well. The food was good overall but no game changers. I can say that I had a great evening at the Sapori del Lord Byron!

Sapori del Lord Byron Restaurant Review (Rome, Italy)
Sapori del Lord Byron Restaurant Review (Rome, Italy)
My final stop in Rome was at the Lord Byron hotel, on the north side of the city. To get there, I walked through the Villa Borghese garden with my luggage, which was a bit of a challenge. There are easier routes, but either way, it’s a little over a kilometer walk to the nearest metro station.
The hotel has a nice exterior and walking in definitely makes you feel you’re at a luxury hotel.
Once I met with the reception and checked in, I headed up to my suite. I received a fairly large room with a living room, bedroom, two TVs, a large closet and grand bathroom. I loved the bathroom’s white marble on almost all of the surfaces.
I did have a view of the residential area behind the hotel.
The hotel was nice although it does lack a fitness center, spa, club lounge or a way to make coffee in the rooms. I was pleased to find the extensive daily breakfast in their Sapori del Lord Byron restaurant the next morning. They had lots of local Italian dishes as well as your typical Western breakfast options. Another feature to point out, is the quality of the coffee, it will never disappoint!
My stay at the Lord Byron hotel was a short one. I did have a chance to eat a dinner at their Sapori del Lord Byron restaurant which you’ll be able to read about in a separate article. This is the type of hotel that offers a luxury atmosphere with the more local feeling. If you’re looking for a local experience but still with luxury amenities, I can recommend to you the Lord Byron hotel in Rome.

The evening at La Pergola began with views of the beautiful city of Rome. The restaurant is atop the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, perched upon a hill. This could possibly be the best view of Rome.
I arrived a bit before my reservation, so I went for a negroni in the waiting area. It goes without saying that the drink tasted great and looked gorgeous.
I was excited to get this 3 Michelin starred meal started and headed to the table. The restaurant offers an à la carte menu, but of course, I went with the 10 course tasting menu along with the wine pairing to see what they could really offer.
The restaurant offers a very luxurious ambiance. Even though it was early on a weekday, the restaurant was quite full. I loved the decoration of the dining room, very high-end.
The meal started with three different amuse bouches. All were lovely, but I especially appreciated the potato. I was also introduced to their large water menu. I started with a very low mineral water and then as the meal went on, the server increased the level of minerals. Water is not often something I pay too much attention to, but during this meal I truly noticed the differences, especially in level of minerals. Now I know that I prefer high-mineral water, live and learn.
Another interesting part of this dinner experience would have to be the salt selection. They offer you a choice of six different salts from six different parts of the world. I went with an Iranian salt to accompany my bread and Italian olive oil.
It was finally time to start the first course. The first dish was the amberjack marinated in white balsamic vinegar with pomegranate snow. This was gorgeously presented and offered a subtle yet enjoyable flavor. Following was a smoked scallop tartar and red beet shell. This had a bit more punch to it, and more up my alley.
I was so happy that this meal included some traditional Italian dishes. The first I’m referring to was the Fagottelli “La Pergola.” This were small raviolis filled with liquid. When you bite into them, they explode in your mouth, this added a real wow factor to the dish.
I was very excited to try another traditional Italian dish, which was the zucchini flower. This was a deep fried zucchini flour with caviar on shellfish and saffron consommé. Once again, an incredibly gorgeous dish and at that point in the meal, it was my favorite. Little did I know, my life was about to change!
The thing about the meal at La Pergola, was that the dishes just kept getting better and better. The flavors just kept getting more and more exciting! Bring it on!
The next dish that I was quite fond of would be the composition of John Dory, squid and red shrimp in citrus fruit steam. This was very enjoyable indeed. It had a plethora of flavors which all balanced each other. It almost felt like a home-cooked meal but a bit more complex. Splendid.
It was about this time in the meal that chef Heinz Beck invited me back to the kitchen to take a look. The level of energy in the kitchen was off the charts! After a little small talk, it was back to my food marathon.
By far, my favorite dish of the meal was the fillet of venison on chestnut cream with vegetables, tubers and seasonal fruit. Honestly, it was much better than any other venison that I’ve ever had in my life. No gamy flavor here! Just pure enjoyment with complex yet very enjoyable flavors. Definitely a home run with the venison!
I was then informed that the cheeses were on their way. Recently, I’ve become much fonder of cheese than I ever thought I would. I chose taleggio, a Pinot Noir crusted cheese and a blue cheese with rum and cacao. I even fell in love with the very intense blue cheese. Wonderful!
After cheese was dessert. First was the dessert called “The sun…” which is really hard to explain but take a look at the presentation. You literally get to scrape it off of a light-box. It was tasty as well which definitely was very important! Dry parts and moist parts got me slightly confused, but in a good way. Wink.
The final dessert was the iced sphere of wild berries on tea cream with crystallized raspberries. This was a frozen sphere that you had to break through. Mixing together with the raspberries and all the other flavors made this for a very creative and tasty dessert as well. However, I must say that the sun was still my favorite dessert of the evening!
Just when you think you can’t stuff anymore food down your throat, they brought out a box of chocolate and the coffee menu. I went for a Jamaican coffee called blue mountain, that packed a bold punch. This was a great way to finish off the meal and I must say that I was very happy!
When I finished the last bite of chocolate, I must say I was in a food heaven, or perhaps, a food coma? The food along with the wine pairings were generally all fantastic! At the beginning of the meal, I’ll admit, that some of the subtle flavors didn’t excite me so much, but then, in a very dramatic fashion, the food just got better and better. The evening took me on a magical food journey and for this, it’s obvious that the creators are true professionals. The service was fantastic. This would definitely be a place that you should go out of your way to visit just as the Michelin guide suggests. All in all, I can highly recommend you to visit La Pergola in Rome!

La Pergola Restaurant Review: Best Fine Dining in Rome?
La Pergola Restaurant Review: Best Fine Dining in Rome?
One of my stays on my Rome trip was at the Gran Meliá hotel. This hotel is located near the Vatican which is incredibly convenient. It’s not right in the center but close enough to feel more relaxed even though you’re still in the city.
When you reach the property, it feels like you are arriving at a private mansion. The compound is beautiful, with a gorgeous driveway, seating areas and an outdoor pool.
After checking in, I went to the six floor to see my new home for the next couple of nights. I walked in to see a large mural above the bed. There were two chairs with a table and then a desk below the TV. You can tell this hotel is quite new because of all of the advanced technology. For example, they have a phone called Handy which enables you to have internet while you’re roaming around Rome. Also, there’s a great coffee machine, lighting that can be controlled at several points in the room and a large walk-in closet.
From a design standpoint the bathtub is gorgeous. There’s actually a rain shower above the bathtub and it is enclosed in glass. Very beautiful indeed!
There’s a small gym on the first floor of the property. In the gym you’ll find three pieces of cardio equipment and then some weight equipment as well. There are free weights but they’re smaller size. The Gran Meliá Rome also offers a fairly extensive spa equipped with energy pool, steam rooms, tea station, sauna and a relaxation area. I’d definitely want to return for a treatment.
The hotel was nice enough to bring me a welcome gift of a bottle of champagne and a tray of fruit and sweets! Not only did it look gorgeous, it all tasted great as well.
I went to sleep after a great bath, sleeping like an angel. When I awoke, I was very excited to workout in the gym and then go to breakfast. The breakfast is on the H level in their Nectar bar and dining area. There is an impressive breakfast buffet with lots of fresh items for your choosing. They have all of the traditional western items but in addition, they have wonderful pastries, champagne and donuts. Overall, the breakfast looked and tasted fantastic.
Before I checked out, I had a chance to also enjoy a dinner at the Nectar restaurant. I started with a phenomenal tuna tartar. It was combined with avocado and was very refreshing. Second up was the Bucatini All’Amatriciana. This was a perfectly cooked pasta with red sauce and bacon. Seriously, one of the best pastas I’ve ever had! I would highly recommend the food, it was all incredible and nobody is paying me to say that. Wink. I also think that all countries should end their meals with Lemoncello!
As a complete package, I really enjoyed the Gran Meliá Rome. This hotel has a lot to offer. Its location is not right in the thick of things, yet it is very convenient at the same time. I will never forget how fantastic the breakfast and lunch were. A truly wonderful food and beverage department. The gym could be slightly larger but they make up for it and lots of other ways. All in all, I must say that I really enjoyed my time at the Gran Meliá Rome and I am sure that you will too!

While recently in Rome, I took an evening to have a meal at Life restaurant. The restaurant is located conveniently near the Spanish Steps. Walking into the dining room I noticed lots of customers, this always makes me excited because it usually means I’m in the presence of good food!
I wanted to get a real feel for the Life restaurant so I ordered two tasting menus! One was of course their black truffle tasting menu and the other was their lobster tasting menu. One started with salmon and the other with several carpaccios. Practically every item on both plates was fantastic! I especially enjoyed the salmon from lobster tasting menu.
Moving right along, the next dish that really caught my attention had to be the homemade ravioli filled with burrata cheese, parmesan cream topped with black truffle. This was possibly the best ravioli that I’ve ever tasted.
The next dish that I’d like to take note of is the sea bass fillet with artichoke salad, lemon sauce and crunchy king prawn. I’ve never had a prawn cooked quite like this, and I must say I truly enjoyed it. It was slightly crispy on the outside and full of flavor. The prawn contrasted nicely with the artichoke and made for a fantastic dish.
Next up was dessert. There was a crunchy puff pastry with pistachios and strawberries as well as a pastry with chantilly cream and dark chocolate. Both were creamy and looked gorgeous! Out of the two, my favorite in both looks and taste was the pastry with dark chocolate.
Overall, the evening at Life restaurant was great! I loved this part of Rome, and I think the food truly backed up the positive reviews I found online. I was able to sample a majority of their menu, and was able to come to a positive conclusion! I enjoyed most of the dishes with a few that were much better than others. One thing I would have appreciated would have been better wine pairings. Regardless, the service throughout the evening was very timely and enjoyable. When it’s all said and done, I can definitely recommend you to visit Life restaurant in Rome, Italy!

I was already greatly enjoying my stay at the Westin hotel in the center of Rome. However, I wanted to explore the dining options, so I decided to have a dinner at their Doney restaurant. Before you continue this article, you better be sure to read the full hotel review!
The restaurant dining room is quite elegant and overlooks the street. To get the meal startled, I went with the Mare Nostrum. This was a dish that combined tuna tartar, swordfish and a prawn salad. I must say that this started the meal off with a bang because I really enjoyed all of them!
After working my way through that first and very memorable Mare Nostrum, it was time for a few other plates. Coming at the same time were the risotto with artichokes, fresh mint and provolone cheese, and also the potato gnocchi with porcini mushrooms and salted ricotta cheese. I must say that out of the two dishes, the risotto was absolutely the winner, hands down. The gnocchi was acceptable but could use a little work. The risotto was probably one of the better risottos that I’ve ever had. It came in a great little metal pot inside of a wooden plate which added to the experience. The risotto was very creamy and the cheese really set it off.
Once I the risotto, it was time to move on to the beef main course, with a red wine of course. The wine was a 2012 Barbera d’ Alba from Barolo, Italy. I ordered this to accompany my beautiful beef fillet, with a reduction of Brunello di Montalcino wine sauce with potatoes. This piece of meat was cooked to perfection. My knife glided through it like a hot knife through butter.
To finish off the evening, was of course dessert. I went with the tiramisu which I can definitely recommend to you. This came accompanied with two bits of meringue. I love that they offered a glass of lemoncello at the end to have just after the espresso. I was stuffed but still felt great!
I didn’t really know what to expect heading into this meal, but I’m sure happy that I took the opportunity to have a dinner at the Doney restaurant. The dishes that stood out to me were of course the tuna tartar, the amazing risotto and course the beef fillet. Overall, the wines were nice but could be a little better to accompany these magical dishes. The service and the ambiance of the dining room were also solid. In the end, I enjoyed my time at the Doney restaurant inside of the Westin Excelsior Rome hotel and I can assume that you will have a good time there as well!

I stuck with the SPG brand as I moved from the Sheraton Roma hotel to the The Westin Excelsior. It’s quite a classic property built in 1906. Just a five-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, the location of the Westin makes it a perfect place to begin your exploration of this magnificent city!
Upon entering, you’ll immediately notice the luxurious lobby. In the evenings, they normally have live music which adds to the very nice ambiance. Lots of chandeliers and a warm and welcoming staff make this a great place to spend a time.
After checking in, I went up to the sixth floor to view my deluxe room. First and foremost, I noticed the beautiful green color scheme throughout. I absolutely loved the patterns on the walls. This style makes me feel very comfortable and a place I would truly love to come back to you sooner than later. The room was very spacious and had a large bathroom as well as a large walk in closet.
The bathroom had a large marble counter-top with two separate sinks, a shower and bathtub as well as a heated towel rack.
I’d like to thank the staff of the Westin for delivering a bottle of prosecco during my stay as well as a tray of very tasty sweets. I especially enjoyed the cannoli!
Once I was settled in, it was time to explore the rest of the The Westin Excelsior! A feature I liked was the elegant staircase that had beautiful carpeting, making you feel like royalty. Working my way down to the basement level, I took note of the facilities including indoor pool, steam room, fitness center and sauna. I really enjoyed cranking up the heat in both the steam room and sauna! All facilities were great.
The gym was quite extensive with lots of cardio machines, weight machines and free weights. The facilities were not very busy which made for a peaceful workout.
During my stay, I had the opportunity to have a dinner at their Doney restaurant, on the ground floor. The Doney restaurant is also where the breakfast takes place. You can read about the dinner in a separate article. The breakfast was splendid, I couldn’t help but notice the fantastic pastry selection and the foreign foods. The cappuccino was like heaven!
When my stay came to an end, I was a bit disappointed that I had to leave. I’m sure the staff would like to know that it would be my pleasure to continue living in this hotel, indefinitely. Wink. All in all, it was a fantastic stay, especially considering the great facilities, service, design and of course the food. In conclusion, I can highly recommend you to stay at the The Westin Excelsior Rome hotel!

My first stop in Rome was at the Sheraton Roma hotel. You’ll be sure to read about my final verdict of the property in this separate article. During my stay, I visited their AQVI restaurant several times. The hotel is located out of the city center on the south end of Rome. It is not too far away from the EU Magliana metro station. The AQVI restaurant overlooks the hotel’s gloriously massive glorious pool. There is also a waterfall down the hill behind, which creates a very relaxing environment.
First, I was served prosecco, which is a must, obviously. Then, I came up with a game plan for the meal with the chef. The chef decided to create a tasting menu but I had one condition, I needed a pizza. The first order of business was to put together wines to pair. In the planning phase, I took it upon myself to order a Negroni which is a traditional Italian cocktail to get through this stressful time. Wink.
After deciding on several alcoholic drinks, the first item was brought out, which was the tuna tartar and salmon. I must say the tuna tartar was extraordinary. It was tops with pomegranate onions and a yogurt which all complement each other quite well and led me to enjoy the dish.
The friendly service staff then brought out a pasta accompanied with calamari filled with artichokes. The pasta was slightly sweet and was a lot to decipher between tapes. In the end I enjoyed the dish especially the artichokes.
Up next was my beloved pizza, topped with prosciutto, olives, eggs and of course more artichokes. This pizza was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and slightly chewy on the inside. A wonderful pizza!
The final main course of the evening, was the chef’s specially prepared monk fish. The monk fish was accompanied with greens and potatoes. This dish tasted like it was cooked at home. It was very heartwarming.
To finish off the dinner, was a very sweet and delectable dessert. It was a little bit high in sugar content but I still enjoyed it nevertheless. I also had to finish off the meal with an espresso and a few more cookies that led me into sleepy bliss.
All in all, the meal was quite nice. I loved sitting next to the pool with the fountain. The food overall was quite enjoyable and I especially enjoyed the tuna tartar and the pizza. If you’re staying at the Sheraton Roma hotel, I would not hesitate to have a meal that includes pizza at their AQVI restaurant, poolside.

One very memorable meal during my time in Rome was at Le Jardin de Russie at the Hotel de Russie. When you arrive at the property, the first thing you’ll probably notice, is the gorgeous outdoor terrace.
It was so inviting, I decided to order a drink and have a few snacks before the real meal started. The ambiance on the terrace is magical and really hard to beat. Little touches like a giant single cube of ice made my drink stand out.
After my wonderful drink and snacks on the terrace, I headed up the staircase and into Le Jardin de Russie restaurant. You enter into a sea of white, with green accents throughout. The area really feels like an oasis in the middle of the bustling metropolis that is Rome. The menu is full of classic Italian dishes!
To get the meal started, there was a small amuse bouche which was a small piece of fish in a sea of cream with a truffle slice perched on the top. This had a great taste and got me excited for what was to come.
The next dish that came highly recommended by the glorious service staff, was the focaccine with artichokes, cheese and black truffle. As you can see, this dish looked like it came straight down from heaven. Incredibly gorgeous and flavor that was bursting out. Lovely.
The next item up on the food marathon that was the evening, was an order of seared scallops with Jerusalem artichokes and more black truffle. This dish look like it was made by a true artist. The scallops were perfectly seared. Another home run and the excitement was even greater!
Of course, I wanted to try a few very traditional dishes which included the Spaghetti “Pomodoro e Basilico” and the Ravioli “Cacio e Pepe.” I must say that the spaghetti stole my heart and was definitely one of the best pastas I’ve ever had.
Before I get too far ahead of myself I must say that there were some glorious wines that accompanied the food. Probably my favorite of the evening was Fiorano Vino Bianco. The rest of the wines were also very nice and paired elegantly with the food.
For the mains, I went with the John Dory with artichokes and the Italian Wagyu beef. The John Dory was quite nice in looks and taste and came accompanied with those magical mashed potatoes that were almost unthinkably creamy. The John Dory was my favorite of the two.
For the dessert I was served a tiramisu with ice cream. This dessert looked fantastic but could have been a little more moist.
This meal was overall full of exciting flavors! It all started with that first magical drink on the terrace, which I would highly recommend whether you stay for dinner or not. The service at both outlets was glorious, the quality of the food was top-notch and everything looked beautiful. Without hesitation, I can greatly recommend the Le Jardin de Russie at the Hotel de Russie in Rome!

Le Jardin de Russie Restaurant Review: An Oasis in Rome
Le Jardin de Russie Restaurant Review: An Oasis in Rome
It’s been years since my first trip to Rome, Italy and I was excited to return. It all started with arriving at the airport and finding my driver from the Sheraton hotel holding a sign with my name on it!
Is there anything better than an airport transfer in a luxury automobile? The answer is simply no. This was definitely a great way to get from the airport to the Sheraton Roma Hotel & Conference Center. If you have a chance, you should take advantage of their service as well! I arrived to the hotel in about 20 minutes from the airport. The hotel is situated on the edge of the metropolitan area and about a 10 minute walk from the nearest metro station, EUR Magliana.
To be honest, I was quite refreshed to return to a Sheraton hotel. Right away I felt the comfort of being home when I entered the property and was greeted by the staff. I went to the standard check-in desk only to realize that I needed to check in at the Sheraton club lounge. The club lounge is on the six floor where my room was also.
Not long after checking in, and I found myself being escorted to my suite. They sure know how to impress me. I received a suite that was larger than most people’s apartments. The suite was massive and had so much to offer. The first part I noticed, was of course the cured meats on the table with a nice bottle of wine. Cheers Sheraton!
The wine was sitting on the dining room table which is separated from the rest of the living room. Just next to the table, you’ll also find a beautiful coffee machine as well as a tea station. They made sure that I got my caffeine fix one way or another, which I appreciated!
Moving further into the suite, you’ll find a large living room, with lots of seating. This is a comfortable place to unwind and quite aesthetically pleasing as well.
The bedroom is of course separated from the rest of the suite and is equally as massive as the dining room and living room spaces. In the bedroom, you’ll find yet another seating area with coffee table. Next you’ll find the TV and finally a very comfortable bed. Sliding into the sheets made me feel right at home.
The master bathroom was equally as impressive as the room. It was also large like living space and offered a full sized bathtub and a separate shower stall. This really put me in a good mood, as I love the beautiful bathroom. There were a plethora of soaps and lotions.
I almost forgot to mention there was also a half-bathroom near the main entrance!
The Sheraton club lounge allows you to enjoy a continental breakfast, afternoon tea or coffee and of course, evening hors d’oeuvres and apéritifs. What I especially liked about the lounge is the fact that there were two rooftop terraces. One has a lot more greenery and the other offers a vast area. All in all, great service in the Sheraton club lounge in Rome!
Of course from all those calories you’re going to consume in Rome, you’ll want a good way to burn them off! The Sheraton definitely comes through with a great gym. The gym is equipped with everything, and I mean everything. Many treadmills and other cardio equipment ensure that everyone gets something they want. They also have a wide selection of free weights. I can’t forget to talk about the hotel’s massive outdoor pool. The pool is very grand and also the location of their poolside restaurant called AQVI.
You’ll be able to enjoy breakfast in either the club lounge or the ground floor at the poolside restaurant. I went for the ground floor route, to get more protein options. Here you’ll find all of your standard Western breakfast options and more. There were little details that let you know you are in Rome like the mozzarella and the olive oil selection. Great touch Sheraton.
When it was all over, this was a hotel experience that I could truly enjoy. The stay was smooth as silk. The service was wonderful, the food at breakfast and during the evening was splendid. I always felt great and very welcomed. It is a little bit off the beaten path but still makes a great hotel. This is all why I can recommend the Sheraton Roma Hotel & Conference Center!
