My ancestors migrated originally from France to Canada, then down the East Coast of the United States. I’ve always been interested in learning more about Québec, where they first arrived from France, but didn’t have a chance to visit until now. One of the most memorable stops of the trip was at the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu. The Fairmont is located about 2 hours north of Québec City. Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu sits along the St. Lawrence River which opens up to the Atlantic Ocean farther north, offering some incredible views!

The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu was originally built in 1899, then burned down in 1928 to be later rebuilt in 1929. The structure feels like a luxurious castle with its strong presence on the cliff, overlooking the water below. Just being at the property made me feel like I had gone to another era.
We pulled up midday to meet the friendly valet who was courteous and pleasant throughout the stay. The lobby of the property is grand and was already decorated in a Christmas theme. It felt warm, like a comfortable log cabin inside. Cozy but also spacious at the same time as it’s long and broken up into sections. After meeting the staff, I couldn’t wait to go to room 219 and see my new home for the next 3 nights!
When I walked into the room I was first drawn to the magnificent hot tub with its panoramic views. Incredible! The room featured a massive king-sized bed, large sofa, desk, lounge chair, tea kettle, espresso coffee machine, stylish bathroom and more. Although this is a very historic building, all of the rooms are updated with the most modern features, including USB ports bedside. There is also a massive closet that can store a whole family’s worth of belongings. Thanks for the champagne and chocolates Fairmont!
The bathroom was quite spacious and beautiful. I liked that they kept the classic look while using modern fixtures. The red wallpaper really set it off. I was very impressed to see customized toiletries with my name on them! When hotels go the extra mile, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks Fairmont!
Their Le Table et Terroir Restaurant is located on the ground floor of the property. Le Table et Terroir is an all-day dining restaurant and has lots of tasty food that I really enjoyed. The front area of the dining room has stunning views of the surrounding area. During our stay we had the pleasure of enjoying three breakfasts and one dinner at Le Table et Terroir.
Where the restaurant impressed me most was at breakfast! All three days were incredibly consistent with quality of food and super friendly service at their buffet. The staff were all a treat to deal with and we got to enjoy the amazing view each morning. Every night before I went to bed I was super excited to wake up and eat breakfast. Please try their lovely crepes!
The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu also has an incredible spa! We went for a Relaxation Massage. It was a perfect choice. The spa was much more extensive than I ever would’ve imagined and offered a very beautiful and calming atmosphere. Our therapists were true experts. From beginning to end, the massage experience was flawless. Gentle and caring with zero hiccups in service. To finish, we continued our relaxation near the fireplace in their special electronic massage chairs. Definitely a must try!
The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu has two pools and an extensive gym with something everyone can enjoy. One indoor pool and one outdoor, both beautiful. The fitness center had all the equipment I could ever want, and all of the highest quality. The gym attendant was right there whenever we needed him and was kind enough to bring us water mid-workout. The property also has other outdoor sport facilities including tennis and ice skating rink in the winter!
One of the evenings we went for the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu’s room service. It was delivered promptly and I can recommend you to try the pizza, local beer and the combo platter.
This property is fantastic in its own right but I also need to mention how beautiful the location is in Quebec. The area is full of breathtaking nature and quaint towns. There is Des Hautes Gorges de la Rivière Malbaie National Park that’s only 45 minutes away. We took a trip there and were really impressed by the scenery! Check out these photos!
The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu absolutely stunned me with its perfection! This hotel was perfect from top to bottom, in all areas of their offering. If you’re looking for a fantastic luxury experience in the middle of some of the most serene nature in Canada, look no further than Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu!
