While visiting the beautiful historical city of Québec in Canada, I wanted to stay at a hotel that possessed a similar historical charm! During my research I came across a striking boutique hotel called Hotel 71. I was delightful to learn that this property used to be a bank many years ago, it’s quirks like the vault door in the penthouse that add to the charm of such a unique property.

Hotel 71 is located in the old part of Québec City. This part of Québec City is one of the most quaint areas I’ve ever visited. Hotel 71 is just a stone’s throw away from Quartier Petit Champlain which is a must visit part of the city that has lots of historical shops, restaurants and bars. Once we circled through the one-way streets a few times, we found the property and met an incredibly friendly valet who took care of our car.
The lobby of Hotel 71 offered a great first impression of the property. The design is comfortable and it’s design goes together well. Hotel 71 offers complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby. At check-in guests also receive cards for pay-as-you-go wine and spirit dispensers. A convenient and economical way to enjoy alcohol during your stay. After learning about all the ins and outs of the property, it was up to the 4th floor to see our new home!
This fourth floor room at Hotel 71 was massive! We had a corner room with views of the beautiful historical buildings surrounding the property. I like how the room was separated into a living room and bedroom by a rotatable TV. Hotel 71 rooms feature high-end capsule coffee makers and electric tea kettles. A bonus is that the room’s sofa could transform into a bed so feel free to bring your entourage!
The bathroom in this Hotel 71 room had a chic design with another notable feature. The bathroom’s door worked to close off the entire bathroom or simply the toilet stall. This clever piece of engineering intrigued me. The bathroom had a large shower stall and quality toiletries.
I must say that Hotel 71’s main a la carte breakfast was quite impressive. This took place in the comfortable dining room nearby the lobby. There were several great options to choose from. My favorite breakfast options were the Belgian Waffles and the Eggs Benedict. The sauce on the Eggs Benedict was the best I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot seeing that I’ve had hundreds! The first day of this breakfast was a little bit hectic so service was slightly slower. When the vacancy dropped the service improved significantly.
In the off season, Hotel 71 occasionally offers a continental breakfast a few days a week in another restaurant. The a la carte breakfast however was far superior in comparison.
Hotel 71 has a small gym on the fifth floor of the property. The gym has three pieces of cardio equipment, free weights and a nice view.
All in all, I loved visiting Hotel 71 in Québec City, Canada. I felt like the hotel’s charm really added a great personal touch to our Québec City visit. A great majority of the service was fantastic while some of the service during the breakfast could have been improved. In the end, Hotel 71 has a lot going for it with its great location, beautiful design and lovely food. It would be easy for me to recommend a visit to Hotel 71 in Québec City, Canada!
