It’s been three and a half years since my last visit to Lisbon, Portugal. From that first visit, I have very fond memories of the city, including restaurants and hotels, and I was excited to show my father the country on his first trip to Europe! I met him at the airport as our flights arrived within 30 minutes of each other. My flight came from Berlin and his from my hometown in the US. We made our way to the InterContinental Lisbon Hotel which I’ve previously stayed at during my first trip to Lisbon. Since my last visit, the hotel had undergone a complete renovation, which I couldn’t wait to experience!

The lobby of the InterContinental Lisbon was just as beautiful as I remember. A very similar design to the rooms but with a bit more gold throughout. Upon arrival, there was a pianist playing which really set a delightful mood! Elegance.
My father and I secured Premium Rooms that were right next to each other. There was a modern color scheme with lots of grays, blues, accented with a dark wood. The interior design reminds me of the InterContinental Estoril which I will also return to after this! Stay tuned for that article too!
The room was feature packed and included a sofa, king-size bed, working desk, capsule coffee machine, teakettle, beautiful Lisbon view, fresh fruit daily, convenient USB charging ports, and soft lighting. What more could I ask for? I was thrilled with the renovation. I’d like to point out the use of TWG Tea as well!
The beautiful design continued into the bathroom which offered a shower stall, single sink vanity, toilet, separate bidet, and quality toiletries. A very clean and efficient bathroom.
During turn-down service the staff were very friendly and offered chocolate which seems to put me in a good mood.
The InterContinental Lisbon had a fairly extensive fitness center with a dozen pieces of cardio equipment such as treadmills and bikes as well as an extensive variety of weight machines and free weights. Definitely a lot of equipment to serve this large hotel, which was totally adequate. Well done! Quick note that there was no sauna, steam room, or pool at the property.
The extensive breakfast was located on the second floor of the InterContinental Lisbon Hotel. Firstly, like the rest of the property, the breakfast dining room was gorgeous. For food, there were lots of Western options to choose from in the massive buffet, and the ability to order eggs à la carte. I was surprised to see so many guests all the way up to 10:30am when the breakfast finished. A hopping place!
The InterContinental Lisbon proved to be a great starting point to explore the city with my father. The first day we walked 13,000 steps. I was happy that I had some hidden gems to share with him from my previous trip. It was a glorious way to start off the two week Portugal trip that was just commencing!
During the trip I also had a dinner at their Akla Restaurant which you can read about in a separate article here.
The InterContinental Lisbon was even lovelier than I remember it! The renovation was money well spent. The Portuguese hospitality was very friendly and everyone that I encountered in the property was just splendid. This hotel is fantastic overall and if you’re looking for a modern high quality hotel in the center of Lisbon, definitely go for a stay at the InterContinental Lisbon Hotel!
