Intercontinental Hotel Review (Lisbon, Portugal)

Last updated on February 12th, 2025

My first time to Portugal was amazing! I stayed in Lisbon for 7 days and Estoril for 2 nights. The last few days before I moved to Estoril I stayed at the Intercontinental in Lisbon. I’m quickly becoming a huge fan of the Intercontinental brand mainly because of their high standards and I especially enjoy spending time in their lounges. I’m enjoying them so much that I will also be staying at the Intercontinental in Estoril to finish out my time in Portugal!

Shall we have a word about the Lisbon property? Sure, if you insist. It’s a larger hotel with around 300 rooms and located in the center of Lisbon. They’re currently in the process of refurbishment. At the point of my stay they had a chance to update all of the common areas but the rooms will get their face-lift in November. Judging by the updated style I’m really excited to see the new rooms!

After a speedy check-in process where I was introduced to some great staff members it was time to check out the room! There are 16 floors and I secured a room on the 8th. It had a fantastic view of Lisbon. It was perfect to see the sunrise and the castle.

Since the room was going to be updated shortly I didn’t take the current design as seriously. The current are still quite comfortable and offer a feeling of luxury. The bathroom was great and had a magnificent bathtub for me to enjoy and get my rest and recuperation on!

The day of my check in I was in work mode so I immediately went down to the lounge on the ground floor once I was settled. The lounge is glorious! The cool blues were very fitting of the relaxed culture in Portugal.

What excites me so much about the lounge is the food! They offered the traditional Portuguese tapas called Petiscos. Hot and cold and both styles were fantastic. As you would assume they offered an evening happy hour where I enjoyed a magical beverage called Ginjinha. It’s super sweet but also gives you a little kick to enjoy! Perfect.

As I told you earlier, the hotel was in the midst of an update so I didn’t have gym access during my stay. They did of course have breakfast and I went for it in the lounge. Simply magnificent food just like the high standards of their happy hour. I would recommend you for sure to get lounge access as well as have your breakfast there!

The Intercontinental Lisbon offers a magnificent starting point to explore the beautiful city. The hotel staff and actually everyone I met in Portugal were very pleasant. As with most cultures if you use at least some words in the local language it will be appreciated. It’s Pierre’s pro tip to learn a few words wherever you go. Wink. My stay was 3 nights and it flew by! I loved Lisbon and I think the Intercontinental is a fantastic choice for a high-end hotel to stay at while you’re there!
