The last night in Bucharest, Romania was a tough one. Much like everywhere I go, the last night always seems to be the best. I was still at the Intercontinental Bucharest and I decided to try their Italian restaurant. The hotel is fantastic and you must read about it in this article. I was told that the chef at the Modigliani restaurant has been around food preparation his entire life because his parents own a restaurant in Italy. This got me extra excited!
For this meal, I got to experience my first Romanian wine. We went with a 2012 Hyperciun Feteasca Neagra DOC Dealu Mare. As with trying most foreign wines for the first time, I was able to notice flavors I have never tasted before. As the wine decanted, the flavor greatly improved.
After taking a few sips of wine, I had a look around the dining room. It was stunning. I loved the light fixture in the middle of the room along with the paintings. About halfway through our meal, a pianist joined and started playing some wonderful music.
For starters, we went with fried calamari and an amazing salad which was basically a plate of meat and cheese. Let’s just say that this was all I needed. Both were absolutely fantastic. The calamari was especially good with both of the dipping sauces.
We then moved on to our entrées, which were a steak that had a hat made of foi gras and black truffle as well as a seafood risotto. The risotto definitely took the gold. The seafood in the risotto was cooked to perfection in and very juicy. I liked eating the steak when I got a little piece of everything. The asparagus was amazing. Overall, the steak had good flavor but could have been a little bit juicier.
They have a really good way of presenting their desserts. Instead of picking items off of the menu, they bring out a tray of desserts. This way you get to see before you buy. We went with the tiramisu and the panna cotta. I really loved the flavor and texture of the panna cotta!
This was a great way to end my time in Bucharest, Romania. The meal was overall, quite good. The service was also wonderful. We were taken care of by a few different people and all were very kind. Most of the food was delicious. Rating the restaurant as a whole, I would say that it was a solid choice for Italian food in Bucharest, Romania!
