My journey around Lisbon has educated me on the Portuguese cuisine a lot more than I would have previously imagined! What a fantastic 9 days it’s been! At the point of my Akla dinner which is inside of the Intercontinental Lisbon I feel that my taste for Portuguese food has been acquired. Lucky for you, I will be able to give a more educated review of this restaurant and other Portuguese restaurants!
When we walked into the restaurant the first thing you’ll notice is the fresh dining room. It is very recently remodeled and looking quite clean and fantastic. In the center of the dining room there are several booths that are in an interesting design with some beautiful lights over top. Even though the dining room is quite large sitting in these booths gives a sense of privacy which is a huge plus.
To get the meal started we ordered soup and a few traditional Portuguese appetizers. We went with a chorizo soup, clams, lamb and of course the famous salt cod cakes which are known as Bolinhos de Bacalhau. These cod cakes can be found almost everywhere in Lisbon. Seriously, an amazing creation unlike anything I’ve had before visiting the country. Lucky for us all of the appetizers were phenomenal!
For the big game we went with more lamb cooked in their special oven. Halfway through our meal we decided to order one of their Akla burgers because we saw so many passing by and they looked phenomenal.
‘
I’ll start by saying that the lamb was fantastic and came with some amazing side dishes including deep-fried zucchini. Wow! Pierre will always have a soft and clogged area in his heart for cheeseburgers. I didn’t put my expectations too high but to be honest I was very impressed with their burgers! The fries or chips as the English call them were good but could use a little improvement including some more salt but that was an easy fix.
It was time for the sweet train! For this we went with a rose mousse and a mille feuille. I first want you to take a long look at these photos and appreciate the beauty in the presentation. Secondly, I would like you to imagine that you’re in a dream eating some very amazing and exquisite desserts. That’s the feeling I got when I consumed the desserts at Akla. Most notably was the rose mousse which was something very unique and lovely.
During our feast we were accompanied by a lovely server who always had our best intentions in mind. She did a great job throughout the meal and show some fantastic wines for each of our courses. We were very happy with their service and that of the rest of the staff at the restaurant.
As I’ve discussed in past reviews, sometimes you are able to experience a dinner that is flawless. That was the dinner that we had at Akla. I’ve literally been eating amazing dinners all week at many different restaurants in Lisbon and this one was the best! That is why I will highly recommend you to visit Akla in Lisbon, Portugal as soon as you have a chance. Don’t delay!
