Intercontinental Hotel Review (Estoril, Portugal)

Last updated on February 12th, 2025

I think when it comes to the lifespan of a hotel you want to be an old classic hotel or you want to be a brand-new cutting edge masterpiece. The last thing you want to be is somewhere in the middle, not really covering either of the areas. Luckily, the latter was the case at the Intercontinental in Estoril, Portugal!

While staying at the Intercontinental in Lisbon I had heard so much about Estoril property. Let’s just say that I had high hopes. It’s set in this very quaint town just 30 minutes by train from Lisbon. If you explore the town you’ll realize quickly that it’s paradise. This place is phenomenal, seriously. On the seaside, beautiful castles just lying around and obviously fantastic Portuguese food. An amazing feature about this hotel is that it is literally a stone throw away from the train station which happens to be Monte Estoril.

When I walked into the hotel I noticed right away all of the new styling. This is because the hotel was recently completed just one year ago! How fresh! When I arrived I was the only one in the lobby so checking in was a breeze. Not too long after, I was receiving a quick tour of the hotel. We finally got to my room and you can seriously smell how new everything is! Nothing like that new hotel smell.

I walked in and I was immediately thrilled to see such a beautiful view. In the room you will find some very nice interior design. This is the first time I’ve seen this color scheme in a hotel. It was overflowing with purples, blues and grays. It really fits well with the surrounding area.

This hotel is so new and it has all kinds of high-tech features that I was very impressed by. First and foremost, you can set the color of the light in the shower. Woah! All of the other lights are easily controllable by different points throughout the room. It’s set up in such a user friendly way unlike I’ve seen in other hotels. They have the do not disturb and clean room alert notification switches next to the bed so you don’t even have to get out of bed if you want to signal to the maid staff.

In the bathroom they have clear glass windows to make sure you always have a view of the water. This is fantastic if you want to relax, take a bath and still remember how lucky you are to be in such a fantastic location. The styling is clean and flawless throughout the room.

The next day I was able to check out all of the fantastic facilities at this Intercontinental hotel. It has some absolutely beautiful pools both indoor and outdoor. Along with these pools they have a fantastic spa area where they have a magnificent steam room and sauna along with something I have never seen before. It was an ice fountain! Coming from Michigan my family had an outdoor hot tub. The only equivalent of this that I can think of would be when we would use the hot tub and then roll in the snow. This gives the same affect. A very cool feature!

I also had time to experience their sparkling new gym. Not once did I see someone else using the gym. It was probably because we are on the seaside and it’s a very nice place to run outdoors. The gym is flawless.

After all of that working out you’re going to want to relax and their executive lounge is a great place to do just that. It’s connected to the lobby and they offer a happy hour from 5 to 7. This is great and I really developed a love affair with the amazingly sweet Portuguese liquor called Ginjinha! Accompanying my alcohol, I took advantage of some of their magnificent snacks that they also offer during happy hour. Seriously, the food in the lounge is so great!

Did you think I forgot to talk about breakfast? Hell no. You know how much I love breakfast and I would never do that to you. The breakfast takes place in the lobby and the lounge which is no surprise. The buffet is not that large but no need to fear because there is a magnificent à la carte menu. I took full advantage and basically ordered everything on the menu. I was super satisfied. One thing that I have learned to really appreciate at these hotel breakfasts are the sautéed mushrooms. Oh my God.
